Trump’s Greenland gambit: Letters | New York Post

The Issue: Concerns over President Trump’s persistence in demanding the US annex Greenland.

Back off of Greenland, President Trump — I like what you have done for our country, but whoever is advising you on the Greenland gambit ought to be fired immediately. (“Trump blasts EU bigs,” Jan. 21).

I understand: Greenland is important to us strategically, but there are other ways.

Take the win with Greenland that’s on the table, and avoid alienating our allies and reasonable Republicans who have supported you.

The left calls you a dictator and you are playing right into their hands.

Tim Ruef

Oakland, NJ

If Trump truly wants Greenland for defense, and not for real-estate theatrics, a far more sensible solution than sovereignty is a comprehensive US-Greenland-Denmark defense treaty.

Europe should stop pretending Greenland’s strategic value is a myth.

Trump should stop pretending ownership is necessary to defend America.

A defense treaty would give both sides what they want, and avoid turning the Arctic into the next theater of avoidable conflict.

I want to know why our GOP-controlled Congress isn’t acting in our national interest right now.

To the rest of the world, it looks as if all of America agrees with Trump’s threats to take over Greenland and slap additional tariffs on NATO countries that don’t agree with him.

The demise of NATO and the peace it has provided for over 80 years is just one of the perils the world will face due to the dead silence in our halls of Congress.

Bob Bascelli

Seaford

Hopefully, Trump’s hostile Greenland rhetoric is simply some misguided Machiavellian ploy to get Denmark to accept favorable terms for more American bases there.

It’s time to stand in bipartisanship, and for Congress to have courage and noble purpose, and forget selfish politics. Rise up and say no to violence against a peaceful country.

Leighton Loo

Mililani, HI

Trump says he’s raising tariffs on eight NATO allies because they rightly support Denmark’s sovereignty in Greenland.

Destroying our closest alliances to take Greenland — which Denmark lets us use freely already — is insane. Congress must say no.

The Issue: Bruce Springsteen telling ICE to get “out of Minneapolis” at a concert in New Jersey.

I just read about Bruce Springsteen using his show to promote what he thinks America should look like (“Bruce ‘Born to Run’ feds out,” Jan. 20).

I have a message for him: Shut up!

No one cares what you or any other celebrity thinks.

You live in a bubble and have no clue what things real people worry about every day, safety being one. I’m sure not one of those people in attendance paid to hear your opinion.

Do it on your own dime and time.

Pete Vardakis

Morris Plains, NJ

How brave of Bruce Springsteen to scream out to his audience that “ICE should get the f - - k out of Minneapolis.”

This gutless wonder, who dodged the Vietnam draft, gets to pontificate from his million-dollar gated mansion in Colts Neck while hardworking ICE agents are just doing their jobs.

If liberal idiots like Springsteen hadn’t backed a weak politician like former President Joe Biden, who failed Americans by having no immigration enforcement, the problem wouldn’t exist.

John Arnold

Saratoga Springs

How big of Springsteen to tell ICE to get out of Minneapolis.

Then he goes home to his gated mansion in Beverly Hills, which probably has 24/7 armed guards.

What a stinking hypocrite.
