Sony’s first State of Play of the year is set for Thursday, February 12, and we’ve got some predictions for which games to expect an appearance from. The broadcast will last over an hour, featuring both first- and third-party titles. With such a long runtime, and PlayStation yet to crystallize its full 2026 slate, we could be in for multiple major reveals.
State of Play’s last outing was in November 2025, and boasted the reveal of Elden Ring Nightreign‘s DLC and launched the demo of the good but flawed Octopath Traveler 0, among other announcements. With over an hour to look forward to in this State of Play, though, PlayStation may be hoping to come out swinging in 2026. A number of major releases are on the horizon and even more rumored to be nearing their unveiling, so here are some bold (and some not-so-bold) predictions for the February 12 State of Play.
Marvel’s Wolverine Will Finally Set A Release Date
Back in September 2025, Marvel’s Wolverine was given a release window of late 2026. As far as we know, that’s still the plan, so an announcement of a more specific date seems imminent. Developer Insomniac Games hasn’t dropped anything since 2023’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which received no expansions, unlike its predecessor. That doesn’t mean Insomniac has been quiet, though.
Just last week, Insomniac teased a Daredevil or She-Hulk appearance in Marvel’s Wolverine. As we steadily approach the game’s release window, more such teases and more overt marketing is likely to ramp up. It seems likely that Logan will make an appearance at State of Play, and in addition to a possible release date announcement, it’s about time we saw some extended gameplay.
Death Stranding 2’s PC Port Will Be Announced
Kojima Productions now owns the Death Stranding IP, so that means Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is practically guaranteed to land on PC at some point. The first game did, and it even later came to Xbox well after its PlayStation exclusivity period expired. Death Stranding took eight months to arrive on PC after its initial PS4 release, and if DS2 has a similar deal inked with Sony, we’re closer to a PC port than you might think. Counting eight months after DS2‘s PS5 launch would land you in February (psst, that’s this month).
A shadow drop at State of Play could certainly be in the cards, and director Hideo Kojima is even teasing something on Bluesky. The post shows him editing a trailer; Kojima is famously a huge film buff, directing cutscenes like a major motion picture and editing his own trailers. Looking even closer, the font that reads, “A Hideo Kojima Game,” appears to be the same as that used in Death Stranding 2. The white text on a solid black background is used throughout its original promo material and the game itself.
Horizon Hunters Gathering Will Show In-Depth Gameplay
Although a State of Play is always welcome, the announcement of one on February 12 did bring up an interesting question: why was Horizon Hunters Gathering announced a week ahead of time? Horizon Zero Dawn and its sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, were both major hits for PlayStation Studios, yet Guerrilla Games unceremoniously announces the three-player co-op game with a standalone trailer.
My guess is that extended gameplay has been saved for State of Play. So far, we’ve only seen fairly short clips, but a whole mission edited down to a few minutes would give a much better idea of how the game is supposed to play. This also paves the way for the reveal of when Horizon Hunters Gathering‘s first playtest is going to happen. It’s coming in late February, and sign-ups are already open (click here to sign up via the PlayStation Beta Program), so an exact date should be given any day now.
MLB The Show 26 Gets A New Trailer Before Launch
Spring training starts later this month, and that means it’s almost time for MLB The Show to step back up to the plate. MLB The Show 26 comes out on March 17 (you can get four-day early access by preordering the Deluxe Edition) for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch (and Switch 2, via backward compatibility).
Aaron Judge gracing the cover once again proved to be contentious – I’m putting my money on Bobby Witt Jr. for next year’s cover athlete – but we’re nevertheless quickly approaching the launch of PlayStation’s perennial multi-platform baseball sim, so we’re practically bound to see more trailers ahead of launch. PlayStation series, PlayStation State of Play, book it.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Finally Resurfaces
We’re approaching five years since Naughty Dog released a new game, but at least we know what’s next: Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. It was announced in 2024 as The Game Awards’ finale that year, but has been radio silent since. Given its rumored release timeline, with reports suggesting a 2027 release, this isn’t exactly surprising, but February 12’s State of Play would be a great place to get Intergalactic back in the limelight.
I think we’re still quite a ways away from any major gameplay footage – games coming sooner have priority, after all – but it feels about time we got at least a little clearer picture of what Intergalactic is going to be like. At this rate, Naughty Dog is going to release just one new title this entire console generation, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see PlayStation start touting Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet ahead of the PS5’s final years.
007 First Light Will Begin Its Countdown To Release
We’re just three months away from the release of 007 First Light, the first James Bond video game in 14 years. IO Interactive has garnered a strong reputation for its three most recent and beloved Hitman games, collectively known as the World of Assassination trilogy. Taking on the Bond license, however, is a different matter entirely.
A whole State of Play was dedicated to 007 First Light last September, which gave us our first look at its gameplay, but has since been steadily revealing characters, including its villain played by Lenny Kravitz, and even Bond’s new Aston Martin. IOI won’t want to take its foot off the gas, and with such a long State of Play coming up on Thursday, there’s plenty of room for a 007 First Light spot, even if it’s not all new footage.
God Of War’s Long-Rumored Metroidvania Gets Unveiled
We keep hearing through the grapevine that a God of War spin-off is in the works, alongside the next mainline title. The metroidvania spin-off will supposedly star Deimos, Kratos’ brother who played a significant role in 2010’s God of War: Ghost of Sparta, originally a PlayStation Portable exclusive.
Such rumors have been swirling for a while now, with nothing to show for it yet. If such a game were to materialize, a State of Play would be the place, considering God of War‘s status as a PlayStation flagship. Metroidvanias are perennially in vogue (Hollow Knight: Silksong just scored a GOTY nomination last year), and attaching the God of War name to one could be a recipe for success.
Saros Will Show A New Trailer As We Approach Release
Although it has plenty of great games under its belt, Housemarque really made a name for itself with 2021’s Returnal, one of the first games to really show off the capabilities of the PlayStation 5 (and still one of the console’s best exclusives, in my opinion). Very much in the same gameplay vein is Saros, which will debut on April 30, 2026, Returnal‘s fifth anniversary.
The third-person bullet hell shooter roguelike takes players to a mysterious colonial planet called Carcosa, and just like the other games listed here that are releasing in the first half of the year, Saros is likely to appear at State of Play simply because its marketing needs to ramp up. I expect a mix of gameplay and story in a new trailer, with some major teases regarding the deeper mysteries of Carcosa, which will be at the center of Saros.
Marathon Breaks Down Its Big Gameplay Changes
Bungie’s debut new game under the PlayStation Studios banner has yet to come four years after its acquisition, and even worse, it’s been mired in controversy. Marathon‘s signature art style was stolen from an independent artist, and the controversy thrust the extraction shooter into a period of self-examination. It’s now slowly creeping back into the spotlight, complete with much-needed gameplay changes following lackluster playtests.
Marathon‘s March 5 launch date is right around the corner, and State of Play could be its big coming-out party. ARC Raiders just proved there’s plenty of room in the extraction genre, but Marathon is looking to capture a slightly more competitive audience, without losing itself in the hardcore survival aspects touted by Escape from Tarkov. With its release looming, Marathon is a shoe-in to appear on Thursday.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Will Reveal Its Title
Hopes for a Game Awards 2025 reveal of the third Final Fantasy 7 Remake installment were dashed a couple of months ago, but it seems like we’re increasingly closer to Part 3‘s unveiling. Remake just landed on Switch 2, with Rebirth following later this year, but the trilogy thus far has been a PlayStation-first affair. Both games have had timed exclusivity on Sony’s platforms, and we expect nothing else from the third.
This makes State of Play the most likely place for FF7 Remake Part 3 to be revealed – alongside its still-mysterious title. Only one thing is practically guaranteed: it will start with Re—. How exactly the remake project will wrap up its reimagining of FF7‘s legendary tale remains to be seen as well, but if it finally gets revealed at State of Play, we may get some big hints.
