That’s a wrap for Sagar Radia’s spiraling Rishi Ramdani in financial drama Industry. During the fourth episode of HBO’s masterful Season 4, the recently widowed market maker took his wildest leap yet (literally) after Charlie Heaton’s Jim Dyker overdosed on drugs he’d given to him. When the police arrived at the scene, Rishi legged it onto the property’s balcony, but as well as the obvious getaway side of things, there’s apparently suicidal ideation hovering in the background. That’s according to Radia himself, who opened up about his character’s finale via The Wrap.
“This felt like … the peeling back of a character who’s been hiding in plain sight for years. You think you know Rishi until you see what it looks like when all that noise around him stops — that was interesting to play because arguably that’s more challenging — he’s running on instinct more than he is confidence. I guess the best way to look at it is that he’s not trying to win anymore — he’s essentially just trying to survive.
“When he’s hanging over that balcony, I think it’s a bit of both [desire to escape and end it all]. I think in moments, he wonders whether he should just call it a day, and he deserves everything that happens to him. But I think the survival instinct in all of us as humans would be to try and just get away, survive and live for another day.”
Ultimately, Rishi’s fall was not a fatal one, but due to the excruciating drop he now lies in police custody for the foreseeable future. In the same interview, the actor suggested that he and Industry creators Mickey Down and Konrad Kay put their heads together to come up with a worthy ending for his popular alter-ego, even though he’d have liked to play him behind bars.
“It would have been really interesting and a new environment for Rishi, but … the boys decided that this was a moment where they felt like it was a good, creative ending for them, for Rishi. So then it was like, ‘OK, how do we go out with a bang?’ This was the way to do it.”
When Does the Next Episode of ‘Industry’ Air?
To see what happens post Rishi’s arrest, Industry fans will be thrilled to learn that Season 4, Episode 5 is scheduled to premiere on HBO two days early this week, on Friday, February 6. This is a tactic employed by the network to avoid a clash with Super Bowl LX on Sunday, February 8, which typically brings in at least 120 million pairs of eyes for the big match — rendering almost everything else on the air pointless that evening. As far as who’s playing against each other, the iconic sporting event welcomes the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks this time around.
Industry Season 4 also stars Myha’la, Marisa Abela, Mark Dexter, Ken Leung, Kit Harington, Charlie Heaton, Kal Penn, Kiernan Shipka, Claire Forlani, Amy James-Kelly, Toheeb Jimoh, and Stephen Campbell Moore, with four episodes still to come.
