Spider-Noir is taking a big swing and breaking a decades-long tradition for Spider-Man on the small screen. The live-action Marvel-based series, which is releasing on MGM+ on May 25 and streaming on Prime Video on May 27, has landed an unprecedented TV rating for a Spidey show, suggesting that Nicolas Cage‘s masked vigilante is entering new, grittier territory with his solo outing. The classification is a historic milestone for the web-slinging superhero, as it is the most mature rating a Spidey television project has received to date.
As reported by The Direct, the newest teaser for Spider-Noir confirmed that the much-buzzed-about series will be rated TV-14, which is the second-highest rating on the US television content grading system behind TV-MA (mature audiences only). A TV-14 classification generally means that the series is unsuitable for children under the age of 14, and advises parents to exercise caution in allowing a younger child to watch it, especially without adult supervision. While it hasn’t reached the heights of other superhero shows, such as Daredevil and Peacemaker, which both earned TV-MA ratings, it is the most mature rating ever for Spider-Man on TV.
