David Tennant’s MCU Return Just Got Even More Possible

David Tennant’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be closer than ever. The David Tennant portrayal of Kilgrave in Jessica Jones remains one of the MCU timeline’s most unsettling villain performances, defined by psychological horror rather than traditional superhero spectacle. Tennant quickly became a fan-favorite, with many calls for his return that might finally be in reach.

Tenant’s mind-controlling antagonist, Kilgrave, left a lasting impact. This was largely thanks to Tennant’s chilling blend of charm and menace. Even after the character’s apparent death, Kilgrave’s influence lingered heavily, particularly in the show’s second season.

That opened the door to future appearances that don’t rely on literal resurrection. Now, with Marvel continuing to reintroduce Netflix-era characters into the MCU, the possibility of Tennant reprising his role feels increasingly plausible. Recent storytelling choices suggest Marvel may already be laying the groundwork for exactly that kind of return.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2’s Approach To Muse Makes Another Marvel Villain Return Possible

Daredevil: Born Again season 2 introduces an intriguing narrative device through its handling of Muse. In episode 1, Heather Glenn experiences visions of the villain as part of her ongoing trauma after surviving his attack. This approach reframes the antagonist as a lingering psychological presence.

That storytelling choice has major implications for the wider MCU. By establishing that traumatic figures can reappear as hallucinations or emotional echoes, the series creates a natural pathway for other villains to return without undermining past conclusions. Kilgrave is arguably the perfect candidate for this treatment.

His entire dynamic with Jessica was rooted in control, manipulation, and long-lasting psychological damage, making him uniquely suited to exist as a haunting presence rather than a resurrected threat. Indeed, this was how he returned in Jessica Jones season 2.

As Jessica Jones is re-entering the MCU, revisiting Kilgrave through a similar lens would feel both consistent and effective. Tennant’s performance could once again anchor deeply personal scenes, allowing the character to influence the story in a way that aligns with Marvel’s evolving focus on trauma and recovery.

Born Again Season 2’s Story Means A Kilgrave Return Would Make Perfect Sense

The broader themes of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 further strengthen the case for Kilgrave’s return. The story leans heavily into characters confronting the lasting effects of their pasts, particularly the emotional scars left by violence and loss. Within that framework, revisiting Kilgrave (even indirectly) would feel like a natural extension of those ideas.

Jessica’s history with him remains one of the most defining and traumatic arcs in Marvel television, and acknowledging it again would add depth to her reintroduction. Whether through visions, memories, or psychological manifestations, bringing Kilgrave back would reinforce the MCU’s growing emphasis on internal struggles, making his return in Daredevil: Born Again possible, but also narratively compelling.
