‘Lioness’ Season 3 Wraps as Stars Tease Taylor Sheridan’s Action Thriller Return

It’s now been two years since we last saw Yellowstone and Tulsa King creator Taylor Sheridan in full-on action thriller mode, but thankfully, we don’t have to wait too much longer for his triumphant return. A return that has now been hailed as “epic.” It seems the two-year-long wait will be well worth it, as Sheridan, who has now become known for launching hit shows across the Western, crime, and action genres, gears up to deliver what promises to be his biggest TV event yet with the latest update.

Created by Taylor Sheridan, Special Ops: Lioness premiered back in July 2023 and introduced audiences to Oscar-winner Zoe Saldaña as Joe McNamara, a CIA agent in charge of the black ops Lioness team. Inspired by a real-life U.S. Military program, the series follows Joe as she attempts to enlist female operatives, known as “Lionesses,” and prevent the next 9/11. And all while trying to balance her personal life with her professional duties as a spy.

While the first season of Lioness was met with a far more divisive response that Sheridan is used to, the second outing landed him and the show on much firmer footing, with the upcoming third season looking to build on this with an appropriately epic return. After an agonizing wait, Lioness was officially renewed for a third season towards the end of last year, with returning star Jill Wagner, who plays QRF (Quick Reaction Force) team leader Bobby, taking to Instagram to share several images from behind the scenes…

“To try to capture the last 5 months in 20 pics is impossible,” Wagner said in a caption alongside the images, before declaring that “season 3 was EPIC. Every single moment was golden to me. I am fully aware that I am living in “the sweet spot” and I’m allowing myself to drench myself in it.” She goes on to praise the cast, crew, and Sheridan, adding, “I love my Lioness cast as crew … I love TS for writing such an amazing show … I love the good people of Texas who treated me and my family with kindness.”

Fellow returning star and QRF member James Jordan, who stars as Two Cups in the series and has become something of a Sheridan favorite, meanwhile, confirmed Season 3 has wrapped filming, simply saying “we did it.”

Created by Taylor Sheridan, who serves as showrunner and has written all 16 episodes of Special Ops: Lioness so far (which, be warned are leaving streaming soon), Season 3 is sure to be another major release for the franchise frontman. While plot details remain unknown at present, Season 2 ended with a new threat emerging to challenge Joe’s leadership, with James Jordan previously teasing that the show’s return will be “even bigger” than the already pretty explosive action thrills that came before.
