Godzilla fans should mark their calendars for May 13, as spring ushers in the legendary kaiju’s next chapter. While all fans will enjoy this new story, it’s especially exciting for Americans, as the King of the Monsters sets his sights on yet another American city.
On May 13, 2026, the kaiju returns for the latest installment of Godzilla vs. America, an ongoing anthology comic book miniseries from IDW Publishing. The series focuses on Godzilla targeting different cities across the USA. Austin-based writer and artist Matt Frank’s Godzilla vs. America: Texas #1 will serve as the newest addition to the anthology.
Readers will see the kaiju target multiple cities in the Lone Star State, from the coastal Corpus Christi up through San Antonio, before the main action takes us to Austin. Now the only question is whether the state known for its horse-riding cowboys has a saddle big enough to tame Godzilla.
Godzilla Sets His Sights on Texas in Spring 2026

The official synopsis for Godzilla vs. America: Texas #1 promises readers a whirlwind tour of Texas, featuring four 10-page stories by Godzilla veteran Matt Frank (Mothra, Godzilla: Rulers of Earth) alongside other legendary creators. The synopsis also invokes the Lone Star State’s famous saying: “Everything is bigger in Texas.”
While this line could ultimately be inconsequential, it does raise the question of whether Godzilla himself will be bigger than ever before as he takes on Texas. Given the kaiju’s already gargantuan size, it makes us wonder how Frank would convey a version of Godzilla even larger than usual. However, if anyone can make that difference clear, it would be Frank, who has been drawing Godzilla for 15 years.
RIP Godzilla: The King of the Monsters Is Officially Dead After 71 Years
A new era dawns as Godzilla faces an unexpected fate.
As for why Godzilla is attacking Texas, Frank teased the answer in an interview with Austin’s own news channel, KXAN-TV: “Let’s just say something has drawn his attention here and Godzilla can’t leave well enough alone. He’s got to investigate… and by investigate, I mean destroy.” For now, fans will have to read the issue to discover exactly what caught the King of the Monsters’ eye.
Which Other American Cities Has Godzilla Taken On So Far?

The Godzilla vs. America anthology has so far seen the King of the Monsters target Chicago, Illinois, in the February 26, 2025 release; Los Angeles, California, on April 30; Boston, Massachusetts, on July 30; and Kansas City, Missouri, on October 29. Most recently, the series turned its sights on Portland, Oregon, which was released on March 11, 2026.
The series was originally planned as a four-issue limited run. However, the positive fan reception prompted the addition of Portland, OR, and Texas, with the latter standing out because it doesn’t target a single city but rather an entire state. So in a place known for wrangling the untamable, do Texans stand a chance against Godzilla?
