In the Nancy Guthrie case, Sheriff Chris Nanos has reportedly received backlash for his gym visits. A recent report claimed that the 70-year-old has been spending more time exercising than at his desk, calling him “irresponsible.”
For those unversed, the Pima County legal worker caught everyone’s attention after addressing the public and media about the case. Guthrie went missing on February 1 from her Tucson home. Later, the FBI released footage of a masked man outside the woman’s door, which raised suspicion of kidnapping.
Nancy Guthrie’s alleged kidnapping case has still not been resolved, and now, the blame is reportedly being placed on Sheriff Chris Nanos. The New York Post claimed that the lawman has been spending more time at the gym than at his station desk. Allegedly, he was spotted only “twice” in his office in the past week.
Furthermore, the outlet reported that Nanos has reportedly been criticized for sending mixed messages about the case. It questioned his search plans, which didn’t include him working “more closely” with the FBI. He has allegedly been labelled as “an embarrassment” of his county.
Meanwhile, Pima County-based Betsy Brantner Smith of the National Police Association spoke to the NY Post about the same. She claimed that Nanos allegedly “chooses to deal with the media in a bit of a haphazard way.”
Explaining her point, Smith mentioned the sheriff’s latest claims he made in public. In his statement, he suspected that Nancy Guthrie was “personally targeted,” therefore, she went missing. But then, he also reportedly warned the county people that there was “still a danger to anybody.”
According to Smith, his statement had allegedly “terrified elderly residents.” “That was very irresponsible,” she said. Currently, Guthrie has still not been found after more than one and a half months have passed. Her daughter, Savannah Guthrie, has taken a break from the “Today” show to help in the search operation.
