Prime Video’s ‘Cross’ Soars on Streaming Ahead of Season 2 Finale

Reacher might reign supreme on Prime Video when Alan Ritchson is in the middle of battling bad guys in a new season, but when the series takes a break to film more episodes, there’s always someone to take his place. This time, it’s a worthy successor who’s no stranger to taking down dangerous killers himself, and fans can’t seem to get enough of the gritty hero on streaming.

Like Reacher, Cross brings to life another literary character ripped from the pages of James Patterson’s bestselling novels. Portrayed by Aldis Hodge, Alex Cross is a devoted family man and a brilliant forensic psychologist with a thirst for justice. He’s intense when he needs to be, but is not above showing compassion.

It’s those traits — and more — that have caused audiences to fall in love with the hero who appears in one of Prime Video’s biggest hits, as is evident by its place on the streaming charts. Currently winding down its second season, Cross is the second most popular series on the platform in the United States at the time of this writing (per Flix Patrol), sandwiched in between the hot news series Scarpetta in first place, and Guy Ritchie’s Young Sherlock in third. Globally, the crime thriller sits in fourth place on the worldwide Top 10 chart, nuzzled between 56 Days and Fallout.

Get Ready For an Emotional Season 2 Finale of ‘Cross’

Returning to Prime Video on Feb. 11 following a successful first season in 2024, Cross upped the ante in its sophomore outing, providing fans with more action and higher stakes. Trying to rebuild the relationships he fractured following the explosive events in Season 1, Cross finds himself hunting down a new killer who seems to be deliberately targeting corrupt billionaires and powerful elites.

Like Season 1, Cross Season 2 also spans eight episodes, the last of which is set to hit Prime Video on Mar. 18. As to what we can expect in the finale? According to Hodge, you might want to get the tissues ready, because he told ScreenRant last month that watching it actually made him cry:

“It was the last episode for me. I watched them all back to back, and obviously there’s an extended sort of bias just because we’re there, so I have an understanding of what’s going on […] and throughout the course of it, I kind of got wrapped up in that particular story, and the way it came to its closure, it got me. I was like, ‘Dang, I was right there, too.’ How was I surprised? I knew this was happening, but it’s just so well done.”

Will ‘Cross’ Return For Another Season?

For those worried that this might be the end of the road for Cross, have no fear. Though Amazon has yet to officially renew the crime thriller for a third season, its future looks bright based on all the success it’s been having. Creator Ben Watkins has a multi-year plan for the show, so it’s more than likely a matter of when, not if, the hit series returns.
