007 First Light is almost here, but the latest update confirms that some fans will have to wait longer than others. Originally set to release on March 27, 2026, the upcoming James Bond game was already hit with a delay to May 27. While the May 27 date is sticking for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, it won’t apply to Nintendo Switch 2 owners.
The official 007 First Light account confirmed on X that the Nintendo Switch 2 release will come “later this summer,” following the spread of a rumor about its delay. Developer IO Interactive doesn’t provide a reason for the delay, but promises “the best game experience possible across all platforms.”
007 First Light Delayed On Switch 2
While the news might come as a disappointment to Switch 2 owners looking forward to James Bond’s next adventure, the delay isn’t as rough as it could have been. Insider Gaming initially reported that 007 First Light‘s Switch 2 release was “delayed indefinitely,” so the confirmation of a summer window is reassuring by comparison.
007 First Light isn’t the first Switch 2 port to encounter trouble. Elden Ring‘s Switch 2 release was delayed after showcasing notably poor performance, and Borderlands 4‘s port was delayed indefinitely and possibly axed entirely. While the system is a huge step-up in power from the original Switch, ports can still provide a challenge compared to other modern hardware.
When Will 007 First Light Release On Switch 2 Now?
“Later this summer” could ultimately mean any number of things, but I wouldn’t place too much faith in any release before August. If IOI is already giving up on the possibility of a May release date, it’s not likely that everything will fall into place perfectly by June, and post-launch bugfixes and support on other platforms will be a priority following its release. If you’re inclined toward optimism, July is still a real possibility.
This isn’t IOI’s first Switch 2 venture, as the studio previously brought Hitman: World of Assassination to the platform. While that port doesn’t have any game-breaking problems, it does feature some bugs and frame rate issues, so IOI might be targeting a higher standard for 007 First Light. The new game is also likely to be a lot more intensive by nature, adding another layer of challenge to the port.
Hopefully, 007 First Light will shape up to be a great experience on the Switch 2 by the time late summer rolls around. It might be painful, but the delay will only help its prospects.
