A year after Bobby’s death, ABC drops the biggest clue to his true fate in 9-1-1. Ryan Murphy’s premier network TV show has been slowly rebuilding in the 2025-2026 TV cycle following a grueling past year. Admittedly, deaths are the norm for first-responder procedurals, but nothing could have prepared viewers for Bobby’s death in 9-1-1 season 8. Losing the face of the series understandably caused backlash, especially since the provided reason for the twist didn’t really make sense in relation to the show’s history.
9-1-1 season 9 has been a mixed bag in terms of quality so far, as the project works to redeem itself following the divisive tragedy. While the 118 and Athena prioritize their responsibilities as civil servants in an effort to move forward and also honor Bobby’s legacy, the incident continues to be dissected by viewers, especially those who are still holding out hope that Peter Krause will eventually return. A year since the game-changing “Contagion” two-parter, 9-1-1 drops a big clue about what really happened to Bobby.
Detective Hooks Is Mysteriously Targeting Everyone Connected To Bobby
As 9-1-1 season 9 entered the final stretch of the year, it introduced a new character in Detective Ben Hooks from the LAPD’s Major Crimes division. Originally debuting in “Pick Your Poison” as someone from his agency getting involved with Athena’s weekly case, the character returned the next week for Where There Is Smoke.” Instead of working again with May and Harry’s mom, however, Detective Hooks’ return ended up being connected to the 118 finding undocumented migrants being trafficked in the country.

The 2025-2026 network TV cycle is now in its final few weeks, and yet, ABC still hasn’t confirmed the returns of its two major shows for next season.
Played by Josh Stamberg, who bears a striking resemblance to Krause, the character’s arrival was already suspicious from the get-go, as he was more sketchy than helpful during the time he spent with Athena. He became all the more dubious after crossing paths with the 118 and then calling someone to say that they have a big problem, potentially referring to the involvement of Chimney’s team. Admittedly, it’s too early to tell how Detective Hooks fits into 9-1-1‘s storytelling, but the fact that he has encountered everyone dear to Bobby is definitely something to keep an eye on.
How Hooks’ Introduction Backs Up 9-1-1’s Bobby Is Alive Conspiracy Theory
Because Bobby’s death didn’t really make sense in the grand scheme of things, theories about his death being fake and part of a major twist started to float almost immediately after his demise. One of the most prominent hypotheses is that he is being held in a lab by the government for experimentation, all in an effort to figure out the deadly virus that supposedly claimed his life. Supporters of the theory pointed out that 9-1-1 didn’t show his physical body after passing away, backing up their conjecture.
9-1-1 Season 9’s Unexpected Bobby Update Has Diabolical Timing
As the 118 continues to move forward after their tragedy, an unexpeted update about Bobby Nash in 9-1-1 season 9 has diabolical timing.
Detective Hooks coming out of nowhere and suddenly crossing paths with Athena, and then the 118 seems far too big for a simple coincidence. 9-1-1 season 9 heavily insinuated that he has an ulterior motive, and considering the circumstances and how suspicious he is, it isn’t out of the real of possibility that his arrival may have something to do with the wildest Bobby conspiracy theory actually coming to fruition. Absurd as it may sound, but 9-1-1 is known to pull off the most ridiculous narratives. Going down this path will be on-brand.
