Country singer Ray Stevens has suffered a fall and is recovering. The 87-year-old Grammy winner broke his neck in the March 29 incident.
This is not Ray’s first health challenge in recent years. In July 2025, he suffered a minor heart attack for which he had surgery.
The singer is “recovering at home” after a “brief” hospitalization
A press release revealed Ray was hospitalized briefly outside Nashville and will continue recovering at home. Doctors advised him to wear a neck brace for about a month. “Despite the injury, he remains fully mobile and in good spirits as he continues his recovery,” according to the release.
This is his second health scare over the past year. The singer checked into a Nashville hospital last July after experiencing chest pain. He then underwent heart surgery with a noninvasive catheterization procedure. Afterwards, it was discovered Ray had a minor heart attack.
As a result, he cancelled his CabaRay Showroom performances in West Nashville. The update on his Instagram account stated, “Ray is out of ICU and beginning to walk the halls as therapy with a nurse’s assistance as he is working towards recovering from this surgery. Ray is very grateful for all of the cards and get well messages.”
Ray’s new album, scheduled for release on Friday, April 10, is still on track. Titled Favorites Old & New, the 13-track collection “features a curated mix of beloved standards alongside new selections from a range of talented songwriters,” according to the press release.
In a statement, Ray said, “I had a lot of fun creating this album, Favorites Old & New. It really does contain a few of my favorite old songs as well as favorite new ones penned by some talented writers. I just hope Ray Stevens fans enjoy it as much as Ray Stevens!”
Ray has written songs for Dolly Parton, played trumpet for Elvis and contributed to Waylon Jennings’s classic “Only Daddy That’ll Walk the Line.”
