Former Jubilee Actor Lana Condor Still Wants to Reprise X-Men Role for the MCU

Marvel Studios is fast-approaching its first movie centered on the X-Men after the mutants spent decades under 20th Century Fox’s watch. While legacy X-Men have shown up in multiple MCU movies, and Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan has been classified as the MCU’s first new mutant, anticipation is building quickly for this group to finally get their first solo movie as part of this growing universe. That film is currently in the early stages of development, with Thunderbolts* director Jake Scheier taking on directing duties, and a script being rewritten by Lee Sung Jin (Beef) and Joanna Colo (The Bear).

As of writing, there are no rumors indicating who may be in line to play some of Marvel’s most famous mutants, especially the ones who will be part of the main X-Men team. Marvel may look to keep Ryan Reynolds’s Deadpool around for a while, but outside of him, new actors will be brought in to play iconic characters like Professor X, Magneto, Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Grey, and more. As the search for those stars moves into its early stages, one past mutant actor hopes to have a new shot at Marvel glory.

Speaking with Parade, X-Men: Apocalypse star Lana Condor expressed her desire to reprise her role as Jubilee in the MCU’s upcoming X-Men movie. Condor described being “on this crusade to try and have them bring [her] back” since the day she first played the popular mutant. After that role became the first of her career, she explained how there “was so much that [she] wanted to do with Jubilee” and that she hopes to get a chance to revisit her and accomplish everything she still wants to do with Marvel:

“I have been on this crusade to try and have them bring me back since truly the moment ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ first came out. There was so much of Jubilee because she was my first character ever, ever, ever, and I was such a baby…I didn’t know. I thought you had to pay for crafting. I had never stepped foot on set. So, I didn’t know that world, and I was just so happy to be there. Honestly, any screen time that I got, I was like, ‘I can’t believe this is happening.’ There was so much that I wanted to do with Jubilee, and there’s so many — based off of the comics — just so many places to go with her, so hopefully. That would be amazing, I would love that.”

Condor only got one opportunity to play Jubilee in live-action, with the character remaining on the sidelines since X-Men: Apocalypse‘s release. The only other time fans have seen her was in the animated X-Men ’97 series on Disney+, in which she was voiced by Holly Chou (replacing Alyson Court from X-Men: The Animated Series). At only 28 years old, Condor would certainly be young enough to fit the age range in which Marvel is looking for actors to play the new round of mutants, which would give her an extended run in the role.

While some are already theorizing which A-listers could join the MCU as mutants, casting announcements are not likely to be made public for the foreseeable future. However, stars like Condor will be on many viewers’ radars as Marvel Studios inches closer to making its first X-Men movie a reality.
