Disney’s 2023 Haunted Mansion remake could be the start of a new franchise. So does Haunted Mansion have a post-credits scene setting up more?
Summary
- Disney’s 2023 Haunted Mansion remake does not have a post-credits scene, but there is a fun ghost dance during the early credits.
- Disney’s decision to exclude a post-credits scene continues their trend of not including tag scenes in movies based on theme park rides.
- While this may disappoint some viewers, the lack of a post-credits scene doesn’t necessarily mean that a Haunted Mansion sequel is out of the question.
Disney’s movie based on the theme park ride is now out, so does Haunted Mansion have a post-credits scene worth sticking around for? Two decades after originally bringing the Haunted Mansion Disneyland ride to life as a movie starring Eddie Murphy, Disney is back with a new take on the concept starring Rosario Dawson. 2023’s Haunted Mansion follows Dawson’s character Gabbie and her son Travis (Chase Dillon) as they move into a mansion only to discover it is haunted, leading them to hire an array of supernatural experts to try and help them. This is where Haunted Mansion‘s cast grows to include Lakeith Stanfield, Owen Wilson, Tiffany Haddish, and more.
It is thanks to the great cast assembled and the recognizable brand of the Haunted Mansion franchise and ride that Disney likely has hopes that it could become a new franchise. The studio previously had great success bringing Pirates of the Caribbean to theaters and launching a huge franchise, while even Jungle Cruise is reportedly getting a sequel. The potential for the remake to spawn a franchise means there is curiosity about if there is a Haunted Mansion after-credits scene that teases what comes next.
Haunted Mansion 2023 Does Not Have A Post-Credits Scene
It is confirmed that Haunted Mansion does not have a post-credits scene. The 2023 remake does include a bit of fun with ghosts dancing in the mansion during the early portions of the credits, but even that eventually stops so the full credits can play. The lack of an end-credits scene will be consistent whether audiences see the movie in theaters or wait until when Haunted Mansion releases on Disney Plus to see it. Even though there is not a Haunted Mansion post-credits scene, it is always encouraged to still watch the credits to see the names of everyone who worked on the movie.
No Haunted Mansion Post-Credits Scene Continues A New Disney Trend
By not including a Haunted Mansion after-credits scene, Disney is continuing a trend related to these tag scenes with movies based on their theme park rides. The studio has made 12 movies based on Disney rides dating back to 1997’s Tower of Terror. The studio did not use a post-credits scene with any of these movies until 2003’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. While Eddie Murphy’s The Haunted Mansion did not have a post-credits scene, the four Pirates of the Caribbean sequels and Tomorrowland that were released afterward included something at the end of the credits. But, Jungle Cruise broke the streak.
Following Jungle Cruise not having a tag, Disney has a new trend by not including a Haunted Mansion post-credits scene. This does not mean that all hope is lost for Haunted Mansion 2, as Jungle Cruise got a sequel announced without including anything after the credits. Now it will be worth seeing if the next Disney movie based on a ride includes an end-credits scene and makes Haunted Mansion not having a post-credits scene more of an anomally.
