Just days after Prue Leith announced her departure from Great British Bake Off, we’ve already got word of her replacement. Rumor has it that Nigella Lawson could be headed to the series to take on the vacant judging role. She hasn’t signed on the dotted line just yet, but here’s what we know so far.
Is Nigella Lawson headed to GBBO?
Prue announced on Instagram earlier this week that she’d be stepping away from the beloved baking show after nine seasons. She was ready to move on to a new chapter. In her announcement, she quipped, “I’m 86 for goodness sake.”
Immediately, the internet started buzzing about who’d replace Prue on the lineup, and according to Daily Mail, Nigella is basically a shoo-in. She’s allegedly in the final stages of contract negotiations, with Channel 4 bosses eager to get her on the show.
“Nigella’s recognized worldwide. She’s got the cheeky banter down to a tee, with all her work laden with the fun innuendos and naughty patter that are synonymous with Bake Off,” a TV insider said.
If Nigella signs on the dotted line, she’ll join Paul Hollywood and hosts Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond. The showrunners are hoping to reignite some enthusiasm for the show, and based on the fan comments, this casting might do it.
One fan wrote, “Look, I LOVE Prue. Clearly she was ready bid farewell to the show. But Nigella is an INCREDIBLE replacement. I’m excited!”
