Steam Makes 2024 Hit Free To Keep If You Claim Before January 31

If you’re looking for something new to play without spending too much, Steam tends to be the best place to go. Aside from being the best place to get the biggest discounts, Valve’s digital storefront also happens to have the biggest selection of free games by far. There are so many, in fact, it can be hard to know where to start.

It’s true that not every free game on Steam is worth your time, but every now and then, we get a limited-time deal. You can probably see where I’m going with this. From now until January 31, you can download and keep a 2024 game for the low price of nothing at all. Just be aware this one comes with a major caveat.

Kiki Is 100% Free Until January 31

Grab it while it’s hot

Developed by NipoBox and released in 2024, Kiki is a 3D puzzle platformer that consists of three chapters and 30 levels with unique designs, each with its own challenge.

The official Steam synopsis reads:

“A vibrant platformer with unique graphics and catchy chiptune soundtrack! Dodge treacherous traps and obstacles, overcome only by your agility and quick reflexes. Don’t miss the chance to test your abilities and become a true master of jumping!”

Since being released for free, Kiki has been flooded with negative reviews, the majority of which are slamming NipoBox for using AI in most of their later releases. Certainly, it seems clear that NipoBox has used AI to generate a lot of its work in some of its newer games, and there are AI disclosures on the Steam pages for those subsequent titles. It should be noted, however, that Kiki has no such AI disclosure.

AI or not, Kiki reviews take aim at repetitive music, horrible controls, and huge delays between input and movement, which is not ideal for a 3D platformer.

“While it presents itself as a precision platformer, the controls and mechanics often feel inconsistent, which is a big problem for a game that relies so heavily on timing and accuracy,” one Steam user review writes. “Instead of feeling challenging in a rewarding way, many sections come across as frustrating and unfair.”

There Are Plenty More Free Games On Steam

You can’t win ’em all

If the less-than generous response to Kiki isn’t exactly inspiring you to go and download it, that’s okay! There are plenty of other free games on Steam that you can go ahead and play. We regularly round up some of the best ones, so be sure to check back here when you get a chance.
