Summary
- August is a busy month for Disney+ with new additions including a Marvel offering, classic library content, and TV series from National Geographic and Disney Channel originals.
- The lineup includes a Hamilton sing-along, a K-Pop documentary, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Rio 2, offering a variety of content for different audiences.
- The month also features new episodes of popular shows like High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, and The Wonder Years, and the premiere of Ahsoka, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy on Disney+.
There are plenty of movies and shows coming to Disney+ in August, including more chapters of National Geographic series and a new Star Wars series. There are fewer movies being added to Disney Plus this month, but subscribers will find a Marvel offering and some classic library content original among the lineup of new additions. In addition to Marvel, National Geographic, and its own original content, July will see a lot of Disney Channel original TV series being added to the Disney+ library so that families can rewatch episodes of their favorite shows.
August 2023 is following a strong month when it comes to new content on Disney+. In July, Disney+ added titles like National Geographic’s Sharkfest content, several classic Disney shorts, and episodes of Disney Channel original series. It also featured a combination of library content like The Incredible Hulk and new movies like Slumber Party, so there really was something for everyone to stream. August is just as busy of a month for the streamer as July with these new movies and TV shows coming to Disney+.

- Hamilton Sing-along (2023)
Though the presentation was added on June 30, the Hamilton sing-along wasn’t part of the original Disney Plus listings for June or July. Sing-alongs are a popular addition to Disney Plus content, but for the most part, they are in the animated variety. Movies like Moana, Encanto, and the animated The Little Mermaid movie all have sing-along versions on Disney Plus. With Hamilton, fans can try their hand at keeping up with the rapid-fire lyrics of the Broadway show.
July 28
- TOMORROW X TOGETHER: OUR LOST SUMMER (2023)
Disney Plus has proven to be a popular platform for musical documentaries, especially following K-Pop musicians. This documentary, chronicling the reunion of K-Pop group TOMORROW X TOGETHER as they go on an international tour, fits right in. The special wasn’t included in the original list of Disney Plus content coming to the platform in July. Every so often the streamer surprises its subscribers with new content that isn’t announced ahead of time, and K-Pop fans are sure to love this Disney Plus addition.
August 2
- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
- Farm Dreams (Season 1, 6 episodes)
- How Not to Draw Shorts (Season 1, 5 episodes)
- Kiff (Season 1, 4 episodes)
- Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures (Season 1, 6 episodes)
Most of the new content added to Disney Plus this month is TV series that have already aired their episodes on one of the Disney-owned networks. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is an exception to that. The new Marvel Cinematic Universe movie was in theaters in May 2023, so its addition to Disney Plus after just three months is a quick one. The movie sees the Guardians unravel much of Rocket Raccoon’s backstory as they face off against the High Evolutionary and meet Adam Warlock.
August 4
The 2014 sequel to Rio brought back most of the original voice cast for the movie, including Anne Hathaway and Jesse Eisenberg, and now, it’s available as one of the few new movies on Disney Plus this month. The animated film returns to the lives of Jewel and Blu (and their children) as well as the humans who raised Rio and a colorful group of animals. This was the movie that gave Janelle Monáe her first role, and she also appears on the soundtrack, which has plenty of great music. Its addition to the streaming platform will likely have people asking if the sequels and spinoffs that were in development when Disney purchased FOX are still on the way.
August 9
- Chibi Tiny Tales Shorts (Season 3, 11 episodes)
- Dino Ranch (Season 2, 9 episodes)
- High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (Season 4 Premiere)
The biggest premiere on August 9 on Disney Plus is undoubtedly High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Season 4 will be the last for the show, and it’s taking an even more meta turn than previous seasons have. The mockumentary will follow the series regulars as several High School Musical actors join the series to film High School Musical 4: The Reunion at their school. All the episodes of the final season will be available on August 9, so fans won’t have to wait to see how it all ends.
August 11
- The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)
- Barnyard Olympics (1932)
- Donald’s Cousin Gus (1939)
- Donald’s Nephews (1938)
- Flying Jalopy (1943)
- Goofy and Wilbur (1939)
- Mickey’s Steam-Roller (1934)
August 11 is a great day for superhero fans as well as classic Disney fans. As part of Sony’s deal with Disney, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 joins the streamer with most of the live-action Spider-Man movies. Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home are still missing from the streamer, but now, both of Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man movies are on the platform.
In addition to that, several classic Disney shorts also join Disney Plus this month. The shorts are part of an ongoing restoration project for Disney. The first batch was added to the streamer in July. This batch features a lot of Donald Duck, but there are also Mickey, Goofy, and more of the classic Disney characters in them.
August 16
- Disney Junior’s Wonderful World of Songs (Season 1, 10 episodes)
- Hamster & Gretel (Season 1, 4 episodes)
- The Villains of Valley View (Season 2, 6 episodes)
- Wicked Tuna (Season 12, 20 episodes)
Four very different television shows get new episodes on Disney Plus this month. The Wonderful World of Songs is aimed at the preschool set. It features reimagined versions of Disney songs that will delight kids and give adults a break from the animated movies they come from if they need one. Hamster & Gretel is animated series, but it’s one involving a young girl and her hamster who become superheroes. Going against the superhero grain is The Villains of Valley View, which has been very popular on the Disney Channel. There, a family of supervillains hide out in a small town. Finally, National Geographic also adds a new season of Wicked Tuna to Disney Plus, which follows fishermen tracking bluefin tuna in the North Atlantic. There is something for everyone in the family.
August 17
- The Wonder Years (Season 2)
Season 2 of The Wonder Years is currently airing on ABC. The series follows a Black American family in the late 1960s, remaking the concept of the original The Wonder Years that aired in the 1980s. With ten episodes in the second season, when it finishes its run on ABC, the entire season will be added to Disney Plus, joining the first season on the streamer.
August 18
- LEGO® Disney Princess: The Castle Quest (2023)
Though the Lego movies might have their home with Universal, Disney is getting in on the fun with this new addition to Disney Plus. The special will feature Disney princesses Tiana, Moana, Snow White, Rapunzel, and Ariel as they have to team up after finding themselves all in an unknown castle. What they find is that they have to work together against Gaston to stop him from trying to take over their kingdoms. It’s certainly a unique way to get different Disney princesses to cross paths.
August 23
- Star Wars: Ahsoka (2 Episode Premiere)
Ahsoka was introduced in animated Star Wars projects, but she made her live-action debut in The Mandalorian, played by Rosario Dawson. Dawson continues her role in this live-action series. In the series, according to Disney, Ahsoka “investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.” The show will also feature characters like Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) who also began their Star Wars journeys in animated series.
August 25
- Cinderella (4K Remaster)
- Explorer: Lost in the Arctic
While no details have been revealed about Explorer: Lost in the Arctic, it’s likely a National Geographic special since Disney Plus additions are very light on National Geographic content this month. Cinderella, on the other hand, is Disney’s original animated movie. It’s been remastered for modern technology with cleaner lines and crisper colors. It’s likely that over time, Disney Plus will eventually feature remastered versions of all of its classic animated movies.
August 30
- Kiya & the Kimoja Heroes (Season 1, 6 episodes)
- Pretty Freekin Scary (Season 1, 6 episodes)
- Star Wars: Ahsoka (Episode 3)
- Chip ‘n’ Dale: Park Life (Season 2)
The end of August sees a lot of new tv episodes added to Disney Plus. In addition to another new episode of Ahsoka, which is a Disney Plus exclusive, there are three shows that air on Disney-owned networks that will add new episodes to the streamer. Kiya & the Kimoja Heroes as well as Chip ‘n’ Dale: Park Life are both animated series whose episodes air on the Disney Channel or Disney Junior. Pretty Freekin Scary, on the other hand, is a live-action series for Disney Channel that sees its main character negotiate her way back to the land of the living, provided her underworld guardians come with her. It’s a recent Disney Channel debut that will gain more viewers thanks to streaming on Disney Plus.
