AMC+, as one of the most popular streaming services and an integral part of AMC Networks alongside Shudder, Acorn TV, Sundance Now, HIDIVE, and ALLBLK, has a reputation for bringing a plethora of exciting TV shows every month and, more often than not, it also produces countless new series. In the past few months, it has streamed several fan-favorite TV shows, including The Walking Dead: Dead City, Happy Valley, and Fear the Walking Dead.
While you might have missed them during the weekly premieres, you can still catch up because the newly added shows usually stay for a while before moving on to other streamers. In any case, with the month of July almost coming to an end, it is time to look ahead and see what AMC+ has to offer its subscribers who yearn for new TV shows from time to time. With that in mind, here are the best TV series coming to AMC+ in August 2023.
Dark Winds Season 2 (Continuing From July)
Dark Winds is a Western noir thriller based on the novel “Leaphorn & Chee” by Tony Hillerman. The first season of the series debuted on AMC and AMC+ on June 12, 2022, and the second season, consisting of six episodes, is scheduled to be released on July 30, 2023. Since the first episode airs at the end of July, one episode will be streamed every Thursday until August 31. Rotten Tomatoes describes the official synopsis of Dark Winds as follows:
“Set in 1971 on a remote outpost of the Navajo Nation near Monument Valley, Dark Winds follows Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn of the Tribal Police as he is besieged by a series of seemingly unrelated crimes. The closer he digs to the truth, the more he exposes the wounds of his past. He is joined on this journey by his new deputy, Jim Chee. Chee, too, has old scores to settle from his youth on the reservation. Together, the two men battle the forces of evil, each other and their own personal demons on the path to salvation.”
Lodge 49 Seasons 1 and 2 (August 1)
Lodge 49 is an AMC original program that aired for two seasons from 2018 to 2019, and both of them will be available on AMC+ on August 1. This light and refreshing show hits differently for various people depending on where they are in their lives, as it isn’t quite a comedy or drama but rather a show that touches on the concept of loneliness and getting lost in oneself.
The series, created by Jim Gavin and starring Wyatt Russel, follows Dud, an ex-surfer whose life is going nowhere. After his father dies and his family goes out of business, he keeps wandering around California’s beach and unexpectedly stumbles on a Lodge, where people welcome him wholeheartedly. It unexpectedly provides him with another opportunity to fix his life. Perhaps, canceling Lodge 49 just after two seasons was one of AMC’s most regretted mistakes as the series grew more popular over time.
The Son Seasons 1 and 2 (August 17)
The Son is one of those Western TV shows that sheds light on how cruel the 1900s were regarding survival and savagery. Except for the fact that AMC ended the series just after two seasons, forcing it to tie the loose ends while rushing the story, everything was flawlessly executed, including the cinematography, casting, script, and the authentic representation of the Texas oil empire.
In 1849, Eli McCullough (Pierce Brosnan) was kidnapped by Comanches and raised as an adopted son. After over 60 years, he has turned into a ruthless and ambitious oilman, struggling to keep his empire intact in hopes of passing it to future generations. The show’s focus primarily lies within the borders of father-son relationships. Yet, it manages to give you a pretty good understanding of how clashes transpired between the British and Indians.
Killing Eve Season 1-4 (August 24)
Killing Eve is a British spy thriller TV series that premiered on BBC America in 2018 and instantly became a success, thanks to the outstanding performances of Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer, and others. The series stays significantly compelling throughout its runtime, and it is one of the few addictive shows that you come back to watch again and again.
While its odd storytelling is the main reason for its appeal, the humor also plays a key role in grabbing the attention of viewers, and if you haven’t watched it yet, now might be the right time, seeing as how AMC+ will bring all four seasons to its platform.
The story revolves around two women: Eve, a smart security services operative who is tired of her desk-bound job and often indulges herself in fantasies of being a spy, and Villanelle, an assassin who enjoys her luxurious life. However, when they both come face to face and get obsessed with each other’s personalities, a game of cat and mouse begins to take shape, providing the viewers with an intriguing spy thriller.
