Letters to the Editor — Feb. 2, 2026

The Issue: Gov. Tim Walz’s comparison of ICE agents in Minnesota to Nazis in The Netherlands.

Gov. Tim Walz’s comparison of Minnesota’s revolt against federal ICE agents to the Nazi occupation of The Netherlands belies both his abject stupidity and rank political cynicism (“Walz’s Slander,” Brendan O’Neill, PostOpinion, Jan. 27).

Walz, twisted and miserable man that he is, has managed to insult both the memories of innocent victims of Nazi Germany as well as our dedicated and brave ICE agents.

Mitchell Schwefel

Barnegat, NJ

With his obscene exploitation of the Anne Frank story to make a bizarre moral equivalence between ICE and the Nazi Gestapo, Tim Walz reveals not only that he’s a moron of the first order, but that he sees these violently dissenting Minnesotans as some sort of political martyrs.

There is actually a moral equivalency between Walz and the equally nutty Mayor Jacob Frey and those southern segregationist politicians in the 1960s, whose actions bespoke a nullification of legitimate federal authority.

James Hyland

Beechhurst

Minnesota’s governor and Minneapolis’ mayor claim love for their fellow neighbors and citizens, yet absolute hate ICE agents who are American citizens; what hypocrites.

Judy Chernett

Delray Beach, Fla.

Walz and Frey need to let cops do their thing. Local police and ICE are all members of law enforcement who want to back each other up.

Not only are Walz and Frey always political, but they are liturgical in spreading their hatred of law enforcement. The actions of the men in blue are not always black and white.

Peter Cooper

Bronxville

For the last six months, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey have refused to comply with federal law and have prohibited local law enforcement not only from working with ICE and Customs and Border Patrol, but also from keeping the peace.

Over my 80-year lifetime, one constant has been demonstrated repeatedly: Every tragedy is an intersection of a - - holes, and these tragedies are never sudden events. They develop over time as a result of multiple mistakes. Minneapolis is a prime example.

The Issue: Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s handling of anti-ICE protester Alex Pretti’s death.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s mismanagement of ICE has become a public relations disaster for President Trump (“Appointees point fingers,” Jan. 29).

When ICE agents operate in American cities with unclear command structures, masked faces and little coordination with local authorities, public trust erodes rapidly. Noem’s response to these events has accelerated that erosion.

Trump built his brand on decisive leadership. When he was a reality-TV star, he never hesitated to fire under-performing apprentices who were damaging his enterprise.

If the president truly believes in accountability — and if he hopes to stop the political bleeding — he should apply that same standard now.

Denny Freidenrich

Laguna Beach, Calif.

Trump is giving Kristi Noem a reprieve for the time being, but based on her false narratives, this could be her farewell to the Trump administration.

She blamed National Security Adviser Stephen Miller for her wording, claiming she receives everything from him.

Noem obviously will be the fall guy as Trump is now de-escalating back from these tumultuous weeks of senseless killings. None of this will be beneficial for Trump in November.
