Sampo Koski’s best character builds in Honkai: Star Rail allow him to continuously apply Wind Shear to multiple enemies. As a 4-Star Wind character of the Nihility path, this kit is made to continually weaken Sampo’s enemies, even though individual attacks do not deal much damage. As a Nihility character, his attacks act as debuffs for the stronger DPS units to take advantage of.
Many fans consider Sampo the twin of Genshin Impact‘s Arataki Itto due to their shared boisterous attitudes, muscular builds, and status in the narrative, as many in their society disliked. Mechanically, however, the two are drastically different. Sampo’s attacks in Honkai: Star Rail are small but consistent with long-lasting effects supported by his Light Cone and Relics.
Best Light Cones For Sampo
Sampo is one of many characters in Honkai: Star Rail, whose best Light Cone is one bearing memory of his, even though it is only a 4-Star Light Cone. Sampo’s signature Light Cone is Eyes of the Prey, perfectly tailored to his kit. Since Sampo deals most of his damage through Wind Shear and DoT, these are the two stats he needs to focus on. Eyes of the Prey does just that, boosting Effect Hit Rate by up to 40% and DoT by up to 48%.
The one problem with Eyes of the Prey is that it does not boost Sampo’s ATK. This is because his attack percentages are extremely low. This means that if players give Sampo Eyes of the Prey as his main Light Cone, they will need to invest in Relics with good ATK boosts.
If players want to focus on Sampo’s ATK and his Skill specifically, they would likely do better with In The Name of the World by their side. This is the only 5-Star Nihility Light Cone featured in Honkai: Star Rail‘s launch. It provides up to a 40% DMG increase to debuffed enemies. Since Sampo doesn’t actually debuff anyone, this perk is useless. However, In The Name of the World also boosts the Effect Hit Rate and ATK of Sampo’s Skill by 30% and 40%, respectively, providing a much-needed boon to Sampo’s weak attack.
Sampo’s third option for a Light Cone is Fermata, an easily attainable 4-Star Light Cone rewarded within Honkai: Star Rail‘s Echoes of War or the Forgotten Hall store. Fermata provides up to a 32% Break Effect bonus. Meanwhile, when Sampo attacks an enemy inflicted with Wind Shear or Shock, his DMG and/or DoT increase by up to 32%, synergizing well with his Talent.
Best Relics & Planetary Ornaments For Sampo
Sampo’s build in Honkai: Star Rail shines best with a combination of Eagle of Twilight Line and Musketeer of Wild Wheat. At two pieces, Eagle of Twilight Line gives a 10% bonus to Sampo’s Wind DMG. However, he wouldn’t get much use out of a four-piece Eagle of Twilight Line since he doesn’t need his actions Advanced Forward. So instead, he’ll take a two-piece Musketeer of Wild Wheat Relic set to boost his ATK by 12%.
As mentioned earlier, this ATK bonus is vital to Sampo’s kit if players use Eyes of the Prey to strengthen his Wind Shear DoT.
Although Sampo’s options for Relics are strict, he has more freedom in picking the Planetary Ornament set that’s right for his build in Honkai: Star Rail. Sampo’s best Planetary Ornament set is, arguably, Pan-Galatic Commercial Enterprise. This set provides both an Effect Hit Rate bonus and an ATK bonus. It automatically boosts Sampo’s Effect Hit Rate by 10% and his ATK by 25% of his Effect Hit Rate. So long as players make some more investments into Effect Hit Rate, this Planetary Ornament is perfect for Sampo.
Sampo can also use Space Sealing Station for an overall ATK bonus. If players invest in Sampo’s SPD, which starts at 102, they can get a 24% ATK bonus from this wonderful Planetary Ornament set. This set is excellent for most DPS units in Honkai: Star Rail and always provides at least a 12% ATK bonus, even if the wearer is slow.
Sampo’s last option for a Planetary Ornament set is Talia: Kingdom of Banditry. This Planetary Ornament set provides a 16% Break Effect bonus. In addition, the set provides an extra 20% bonus if the wearer’s SPD is 145 or higher. It is highly unlikely Sampo will reach this SPD, but if players have good luck with SPD stats in their relics, it may be worth it to equip this challenging set. Few characters in Honkai: Star Rail can effectively use this set, so seeing how Sampo benefits from it may be fun.
Tips For Building Sampo Koski
Sampo’s best builds in Honkai: Star Rail requires a diverse range of Relic stats to be effective. This is one of the main downsides of his character, but it can be worked around. A good rule of thumb when searching for main stats is that if players can’t get anything else, they should fall back to ATK% since that is the most wide-reaching stat Sampo’s kit requires.
His Body Relic should focus on Effect Hit Rate, while his Feet need to be SPD based. Like nearly every other character, Sampo’s Planar Sphere should have Wind DMG as its main stat, while the Link Rope works best when its main stat is Break Effect. Because each of these four Relics types in Honkai: Star Rail can have ATK% as a main stat, players don’t need to worry if they lack a particular stat in their collection because Sampo will still grow strong with what he has.
It’s important to focus Sampo’s build on his Wind Shear. As one of the main Weakness Breaks in Honkai: Star Rail, having someone continuously apply it to Wind Weak enemies provides a significant advantage in combat. Sampo’s A2 Major Trace increases the duration of Wind Shear by an extra turn, making it a significant upgrade. Since all of his Eidolon improve his Wind Shear, it is also important to collect as many copies of Sampo as possible. Despite his unpredictable nature, combat against the right enemies will be easy with Sampo around.
