Goblin Slayer Season 2 Release Date, Trailer & Latest News

The controversial fantasy anime, Goblin Slayer, is scheduled to return in October 2023. After its debut episode stirred up waves in the anime community, the series went on to become a fan-favorite. Though Goblin Slayer‘s controversial opening can be very uncomfortable to watch, its return is highly anticipated. Goblin Slayer began in 2016 as a light novel series, written by Kumo Kagyu with art from Noboru Kannatsuki. It has since been adapted into a manga by Kosuke Kurose, as well as the anime adaptation which was released in 2018, followed in 2020 by an animated feature film, Goblin Slayer: Goblin’s Crown.

The series has thrived on its innovative approach to adventure tropes and role-play aspects, with each character being named after their role instead of having distinct, personal names. The protagonist, only known as Goblin Slayer is a far cry from classic fantasy protagonists. After seeing his village razed by goblins, his only purpose in life is to kill every single one of these evil creatures, which other adventurers only see as low-level nuisances. While his “colleagues” strive to get the most epic quests and rewards, Goblin Slayer’s single-minded purpose makes him an outcast in the adventuring community, but he doesn’t care, as long as he has more goblins to exterminate.

Latest Goblin Slayer Season 2 News And Release Date

The first season of Goblin Slayer was produced by White Fox, but it was announced that Liden Films would be producing the second season. The studio is responsible for numerous other anime, including Berserk, Tokyo Revengers, Call of the Night, and the recently released series, The Legendary Hero is Dead. In June, Crunchyroll revealed the first key visual out of six total that are being released weekly.

In August, the official Twitter/X account of the Goblin Slayer anime announced that the anticipated second season will be released in October 2023. A first trailer accompanies the announcement, showcasing more of the brutality and gore that has made the dark fantasy series so famous. At the same time, the opening and ending themes of the season were revealed. The opening song will be “Entertainment”, from indie band Mili, while the ending will be “Kasumi no mukō e”, by singer Yuki Nakajima.

Goblin Slayer Season 2 Story Details

No full story details have been provided regarding the arc that Goblin Slayer’s second season will follow. The trailer also doesn’t reveal much in this regard, besides the return of the Sword Maiden. Nonetheless, if the character and title are still anything to go by, Goblin Slayer and his friends will find themselves killing more of their classic foes. However, the first season concluded with him agreeing to join his party on a genuine adventure, which, based on the manga and light novels, will be the start of a slow but important evolution for the character.

Goblin Slayer Season 2 Trailer

Earlier this year, AnimeUS shared a short teaser trailer for the upcoming season. It was very similar to the first season’s trailer, highlighting the titular hero’s main philosophy: “I’m not saving the world. I’m just killing goblins.” Then, in August, the first full trailer was released, showing a lot of gruesome goblin deaths – as is to be expected. There isn’t a lot of new information added to the clip that fans won’t already recognize, though Sword Maiden could be making a return to battle, considering the change in her appearance and the sword in her hands. The full party of Goblin Slayer will also be making its return.

The trailer for the upcoming season reveals that the original cast is returning. Goblin Slayer, Priestess, Guild Girl, Cow Girl, High Elf Archer, Dwarf Shaman, and Lizard Priest will all come back with their original voice actors. They include Yuuichirou Umehara, Yui Ogura, Maaya Uchida, Yuka Iguchi, Nao Toyama, Yuichi Nakamura, and Tomokazu Sugita. This will reunite the original party as Goblin Slayer keeps his promise of going on a real adventure with him as gratitude for their help defending defeating the first season finale’s horde of goblins.

The cast for the show has numerous notable credits. Yuuichirou Umehara provides voices for Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean and Black Clover. Yui Ogura also has several voice credits for anime, including the role of Marnie in Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series. She is also a singer who has provided some anime music for openings and endings. Maaya Uchida has credits in both The Promised Neverland and Chainsaw Man. Yuka Iguchi has credits in Fairy Tail, Fruits Basket, and Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. Nao Toyama has had numerous roles, but recently provided the voice for Suma, one of Tengen Uzui’s three wives in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Entertainment District Arc.

Rounding out the casting is Yuichi Nakamura and Tomokazu Sugita. Nakamura voices Hawks in My Hero Academia, but also provided vocals for Captain America within the MCU for Japan’s dubbed release. Sugita voices Chrom in Fire Emblem, as well as other characters in hit anime series including Bleach, One Piece, and the Stone Hashira Gyomei in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. Having such a star-studded cast return will be a big plus for Goblin Slayer, as the series changes production teams. The party’s chemistry and respect for one another is one of the series’ best aspects, making it exciting for the whole crew to be coming back to the project.
