A Link To The Past HD Is Truly Beautiful

Released way back in 1991 as the third game in the beloved The Legend of Zelda franchise, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is an action-adventure game, and the first entry in the series to be released on the iconic SNES console. Taking on the role of Link once more, players would follow him as he embarks on a journey to save Hyrule, defeat the demon king Ganon, and rescue the descendants of the Seven Sages.

Offering a top-down perspective as opposed to the side-scrolling feature of the previous installments, A Link to the Past is considered one of the best video games ever made, and has since received ports to the Game Boy Advance, Wii, Wii U, the Nintendo 3DS, and most recently, the Nintendo Switch as part of its Nintendo Classics service. Additionally, a sequel titled A Link Between Worlds, launched in 2013.

Now, inspired by the Nintendo Switch remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, YouTuber BlobVanDam has shown us what a modern-day The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past would look like. Consisting of just over 4 minutes of footage, we can see that The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past has retained its magic, such as its top-down perspective, but whilst also making the graphics more suited to modern-day consoles. Showing the various levels Link will embark on and the people he will meet, this is the remake that A Link to the Past deserves, especially as it is the first game in the franchise that introduces the legendary Master Sword.

Although Nintendo has not announced any plans to release a remake of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, it is experiments like this that show how much they are wanted by fans, especially when you consider their reactions to BlobVanDam’s project.

“A Link to the Past deserves a remake like Link’s Awakening,” one user shared. Another agreed, adding, “I would buy this in a heartbeat. Deserves a remake.”

It is also worth noting that The Legend of Zelda franchise as a whole is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2026, marking the very first entry which was released way back in February 1986. With celebrations expected to launch all throughout the year, including October’s 40th anniversary collection, some fans are upset with the lack of fanfare surrounding such a big milestone. However, it is only March, and there is no telling what else Nintendo has to offer fans throughout the rest of the year. However, for now, it is projects like the unofficial The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past that give us an impression of just what fans want from Nintendo in the future.
