The fifth and final season of The Boys is on the horizon, with it set to hit Prime Video on Apr. 8. The show has been teasing epic stakes going into the end, with the threat more dire than ever as Homelander takes control. The franchise has been branching out with spin-offs, and while The Boys Presents: Diabolical was a failed foray into animation, Prime Video found another hit in the live-action Gen V series. Gen V‘s story could factor into the final season of The Boys, but what is guaranteed is more of Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy ahead of his own spin-off show.
Soldier Boy was first introduced in Season 3 of The Boys, with the Supernatural star taking on the role of the vile Captain America rip-off. The subversive superhero series has since revealed that Ackles’ character is Homelander’s father, which has already produced some spectacular results with some tense stakes. While Soldier Boy is looking to have a substantial role in Season 5 of The Boys, the character is also due to star in Vought Rising. The prequel series will focus on Soldier Boy during his heyday in the 1950s. The show will also see Aya Cash returning to the role of Stormfront (aka Clara Vought). Vought Rising currently doesn’t have a premiere date, but Ackles has already teased a bright future for the spin-off series.
While speaking with Collider, Ackles was asked if Vought Rising was intended as a single season, with the studio waiting to see how it performed before moving on with plans for follow-up episodes. The Soldier Boy actor responded, “No,” explaining that the spin-off was always intended to be a multi-season show. Ackles said:
“I think the intent is to do multiple seasons. When they pitched it, they were like, ‘Hey, we’re thinking about doing this prequel thing, going back to the 1950s with Soldier Boy.’ I don’t think I let them finish the sentence before I was like, ‘Yes!’ But I know that the intent is to have it be a multi-season show.”
While many plot details surrounding Vought Rising are still tightly under wraps, it is said to follow Soldier Boy and Clar Vought as they get caught up in a murder mystery during the early days of the superhero show’s fictional corporation. That concept sounds like it capitalizes on the 1950s setting, with Ackles promising the series will bring The Boys‘ divisive flair to the story. Season 5 may shed more light on what to expect from Soldier Boys’ past, with Ackles letting audiences know this isn’t the “fish out of water” character fans have seen, because in Vought Rising, “He’s the top dog.”
“Listen, it’s going to feel familiar, as far as the format of it all, because I think that’s taking what really works with The Boys and trying to do something a little bit different with it, certainly as a period piece in the 1950s. But I’ll speak personally. The Soldier Boy aspect of it is I’m used to playing and we’re used to seeing Soldier Boy in modern times, but he is a, I like to say, analog man in a digital world, so he’s a fish out of water with what we know of him now.”
“Now we’re getting to see him be relevant, getting to see him in his actual environment where he feels like this is where he belongs. He’s the top dog. But you also get to see the experience as to why he ended up the way he did. We get to kind of peel back the layers of what truly happened in that time.”
Further details about Vought Rising will likely follow after The Boys Season 5 makes its debut on Prime Video in April. The prequel could also debut later in 2026, but that announcement is yet to be made, with fans expecting the final episode of The Boys to potentially feature a tease of the upcoming show. With Gen V fresh off an impressive second season, and the final season of The Boys looking to grab plenty of attention, Vought Rising is sure to have plenty of eyes on it when more news begins to trickle out.
