90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way couple Kimberly Rochelle and Tejaswi Goswami, AKA TJ, might split if they continue clashing over their cultural differences. 30-year-old Kimberly from Muscle Shoals, Alabama, described herself as a spiritualist who dreamed about TJ without knowing who he was. TJ came across Kimberly’s Facebook profile on a spiritual group, but she rejected his friend request, thinking he was a scammer. TJ didn’t give up. He manifested a message from Kimberly by meditating using a screenshot of her profile picture.
As Kimberly and TJ started talking, she came to India for a year on a student visa, and they got engaged. The couple planned on getting married and moving to Jaipur and were going to stay in an apartment above TJ’s family home. However, that meant Kimberly would still not get any privacy and would have to fulfill the duties of a daughter-in-law expected of her by his traditional family. TJ wasn’t clear about his family’s expectations of Kimberly. She also called off the wedding upon seeing how poorly constructed the new apartment was.
Kimberly Disagrees With TJ’s Indian Culture
“Your entire culture is so sexist,” Kimberly told TJ during their fight. TJ was also offended when Kimberly called him a “d***,” which, in TJ’s Hindi language, is translated as a cuss word. Kimberly explained it meant something along the lines of him acting mean. TJ believes “d***” is a bad word for Kimberly since she’s “a woman.” He explained, “Because you[‘re a] woman […] you need to respect […] you’re talking about his object.” In turn, Kimberly slammed TJ for using her gender against her and labeled TJ’s culture as sexist. “My culture is so dignified, you can’t use bad words right before the girl,” he maintained.
Kimberly Can’t Change TJ, According To 90 Day Fiancé Fans
90 Day Fiancé fans, such as Reddit user BrandansFirstLove, mocked Kimberly for being yet another cast member who moved to a country where the culture is well known but still goes there anyway and complains about it. “She’s going to open their eyes to their patriarchal, misogynistic ways,” joked a fan in the thread. Kimberly has become a laughingstock in the 90 Day Fiancé community after she claimed she met TJ in a dream and was guided to him by her spiritual guides. If that was the case, Kimberly should have been able to see her arguments with TJ coming.
Other women in the franchise have been through a similar experience where they tried to change the mindset of their Indian partners and break the attachment they have to their families. In all three cases, the men have always chosen their culture over the American women while choosing to hide information about their families from them. Considering Kimberly stayed in TJ’s country for a year before moving to get married to him, she should have known the life he desires. TJ, in the end, is looking for a traditional Indian wife who will follow his patriarchal culture, and Kimberly will have to conform if they stay together on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 5.
