AMC’s ‘The Terror’ Season 3 Trailer Showcases Dan Stevens’ Nightmare Unfolding

AMC is continuing its partnership with the horror streaming service Shudder for an exciting new project: a third season of the anthology series The Terror, which first premiered on the network in 2018. With each season set to be a standalone story, the series was able to be inventive with its historical backdrops and terrifying premises, helping to live up to the title. Based on the novel of the same name, the show entered an extended hiatus after the second season in 2019. Now, thanks to the new era of streaming, The Terror returns to screens for Season 3 with a new setting and cast.

A new trailer has been released, which can be viewed below for the new season, which is titled The Terror: Devil in Silver. This time around, the star is Dan Stevens, best known for starring in the FX series Legion, and most recently had prominent roles in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Cuckoo, and The Ritual. For The Terror: Devil in Silver, Stevens will be playing Pepper, described as a “working-class moving man” who is wrongfully committed to a psychiatric hospital. It’s a premise incredibly reminiscent of Stevens’ work on Legion, in which he also plays a character that is committed against his will and tries to find a way out.

The hospital is also described as follows in the terrifying synopsis:

“Trapped in an institution filled with those society would rather forget. There, he must contend with patients working against him, doctors harboring grim secrets, and perhaps even the Devil himself. As Pepper navigates a hellscape where nothing is as it seems, he finds that the only path to freedom is to face the entity which thrives on the suffering within New Hyde’s walls – but doing so may prove that the worst demons of all live inside him.”

It will be interesting to see Stevens once again play a character battling psychological uncertainty, with the six-episode limited series premiering on May 7. The show also has an impressive production team behind it, with The Terror: Devil in Silver being executive produced by Ridley Scott. Chris Cantwell is the showrunner and writer on the series, and he’s best known for his work on another AMC series, Halt and Catch Fire. If the first trailer is anything to go by, the show is sure to live up to its title, providing a terrifying experience for both Dan Stevens’ character and viewers.

The Terror: Devil in Silver also has an impressive director for its first two episodes: Karyn Kusama, the Emmy-nominated director of Yellowjackets. The series is set to premiere on Thursday, May 7 on AMC+ and Shudder, with new episodes airing weekly. It’s fascinating to see how much the streaming landscape has transformed how television projects are made, as The Terror had been on hiatus since 2019 before the surprise Season 3 renewal. Since then, AMC’s venture into the streaming landscape, and its partnership with Shudder, has now allowed the horror anthology series to find new life, and continue to tell terrifying new stories.
