UK passport holders issued warning from Martin Lewis’ MSE | Travel News | Travel

Martin Lewis’ Money Saving Expert (MSE) has issued a warning for the millions of Brits who have holidays booked.

With spring now firmly underway and summer fast approaching, MSE shared a message on X, formerly Twitter. The post reads: “Travelling abroad soon? Don’t risk being turned away.

Make these two important passport checks.” The alert urged those with holiday plans to verify that – on the day you’re due to enter the country – your passport has six months or more remaining, or three months for anywhere in the EU.

It also advises that travellers ensure their passport will be under 10 years old when visiting the EU.

MSE added: “If it’s no to EITHER, check the country-by-country UK passport rules to ensure you won’t be sent back.”

The Passport Office recommends allowing up to three weeks should you need to renew your document.

EU member states include Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.

Travel to Ireland, however, differs owing to its membership of the Common Travel Area (CTA), which also encompasses destinations such as Jersey and the Isle of Man.

While a passport is not legally required to enter Ireland, most airlines will still insist you hold a valid one for the entirety of your travel plans.
