A stunning beach boasting turquoise waters and unspoilt golden sands has been hailed as Britain’s very own slice of the Caribbean.
Pembrokeshire is home to some of the most breathtaking coastlines in the UK, with over 50 golden sand beaches framed by dramatic cliffs, hidden coves, and gently lapping waves. The sweeping coastline stretching approximately 186 miles is the perfect destination for a seaside day trip, especially with the anticipated UK heatwave later this month, or for a relaxing coastal weekend getaway.
With such an abundance of beaches to choose from, it can be difficult to know which sun-drenched Pembrokeshire shore to visit. That said, one immaculate sandy beach has consistently been celebrated as the finest in the UK and dubbed the ‘Welsh Caribbean’ – and it truly lives up to every bit of its reputation.

Nestled close to Stackpole Quay and Bosherston in Pembrokeshire lies the pristine shoreline of Barafundle Bay. This secluded gem boasts golden sands, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and is framed by rolling dunes and pine trees, creating a setting that effortlessly rivals Caribbean destinations – tropical climate aside.
Barafundle Bay is a true sanctuary for those seeking an unspoilt retreat to soak up the British sunshine or take a refreshing dip in its shimmering waters. Its remote location only heightens its charm, with nothing but the soothing sound of rolling waves, fresh sea air and picture-perfect coastal scenery to accompany your visit.
It’s frequently been hailed as one of Britain’s finest beaches, even globally, and is regularly compared to Caribbean coastlines. Barafundle Bay has also been recognised as amongst the cleanest beaches in the UK, thanks to its unspoilt setting, devoid of ice cream kiosks or cafés, reports Wales Online.

Despite its somewhat isolated position, the beach can be reached via a half-mile walk over cliffs from the nearest car park at Stackpole Quay, which takes around 20 minutes. However, it’s worth noting that owing to its rugged landscape and steps leading down to the shore, it’s unsuitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.
No facilities exist at the beach itself, but there’s a café and toilets at Stackpole Quay – ideal for a refreshment stop. For those wishing to prolong their visit, there’s a range of self-catering accommodation in the surrounding area and a pub in Stackpole village for that quintessential British meal and pint!
Following a trip to Barafundle Bay, one visitor shared on TripAdvisor: “Stunning beach after a short walk from the National Trust car park. I don’t think I have ever seen a more beautiful beach.”

“In my top 5 beaches in the UK”, another shared. “Great walk to get to and the lack of commercialisation just makes it the place to go. Would recommend.”
One more commented: “Such a beautiful beach. Feels lovely and secluded. The weather wasn’t great but it was still beautiful. The walk there was also enjoyable.”
However, some visitors cautioned that the beach can become “extremely busy” during school holidays and hot weather days. Many recommended arriving early to take full advantage of the secluded retreat, while others noted there was still “plenty of space” to be found.
Visit Pembrokeshire also advises that people should plan their trip to the beach accordingly. “If you’re planning to visit, check out the tide times to make sure you’ve plenty of beach to play on and that you don’t get cut off by the incoming tide”, they said.
