Survivors, ready for Season 51? CBS has renewed Survivor for the 2026-2027 broadcast season. The renewals were announced on Thursday, January 22, one month before the premiere of Survivor 50. The Survivor 50 live finale started at 8/7c on May 20, revealing who would be the winner of the $2 million, as well as the first look at Survivor 51. According to the trailer, every advantage and twist ever used in Survivor is in play for the first time ever. They’re calling it the “Open Era.”

Will Survivor 51 have returning players?
The cast will be announced at a later time, but the trailer that aired during the Season 5o live finale seemed to have all new players.
Season 50 marked the first returning players season since Season 40, the show’s longest stint without bringing back former competitors. Probst told TV Insider that the next returning-player season could come soon.
“Our last all-returning player season was [six] years ago with Winners at War,” Probst told us before the Survivor 50 finale. “I know that can feel like a long time, but we have done a lot of returning-player seasons, and it was important to build a strong new bench of talent,” Probst said. “I think we’ve done that. So yes, I’d say the chances are very good that you’ll see more returning players sooner rather than later on Survivor!”

Filming on Survivor 51 ended in May 2026.
Will Survivor 51 have a live finale?
Fans voted to bring back the live finale for Survivor 50, so hopefully that fan-favorite event sticks around for good. But after Probst accidentally spoiled the fire-making challenge during the Season 50 live finale, the futures of the live shows might be in question again.
