In The City Episode 4 Recap

Welcome back to your In The City recap!

In last week’s episode, Kyle and Amanda’s marriage continued to fall apart, but the relationship between Lindsay and Danielle seemed to mend somewhat. Not everyone was keen to stay on Lindsay’s good side, however, as Kenny and Whitney doubled down on “mean girl” accusations against her. So, what happened next?

Here’s exactly what went down in In The City Episode 4: “Sparks Fly.”

In Episode 4 – titled: “Sparks Fly” – Kyle and Amanda continued to move forward with their “trial separation,” which Lindsay seemed pretty confused about upon learning the details. Meanwhile, Andrea and Gavin clashed with Kenny over comments about his relationship with Whitney. Here’s how it all went down…

After word got back to Whitney last week that Kenny suggested there was no “spark” between them, he set the record straight over dinner. “Spark was maybe the wrong word,” he told his girlfriend, who, just weeks ago, moved across the country to be with him. “We’re not perfect, but we are in a great place,” he went on, trying to reassure her.

Kenny then accused “other people” of “trying to poke holes” in their relationship by feeding Whitney this information. “This is why I get so defensive, because I just don’t feel like you deserve it,” he said of how he has reacted in group situations when their relationship has been questioned.

Meanwhile, in a confessional, Kenny said he was “upset and annoyed” that the conversation he had with Kyle on the topic didn’t remain private. “[It was] communicated way out of context,” he clarified. “I spent 10 minutes talking to Kyle about how amazing Whitney is … so I really don’t appreciate Kyle dumbing it down to ‘no spark’.”

Last week, Amanda dropped a bombshell on Kyle by revealing that the new apartment she’d found for their “trial separation” came with a year-long lease. And, in Episode 4, it was time to break that news to Lindsay. “This is a very big change,” she said in a confessional about Amanda’s plan. “And, what does it mean?”

“I haven’t really thought it through too much,” Amanda replied when that question was posed directly to her. “I just feel like I’m in this weird limbo.”

Ironically – or, perhaps not, considering everything viewers now know about the subsequent West Wilson dating scandal – Lindsay seemed more phased by the move than Amanda. “I’m struggling to process what’s happening right now,” she said, surrounded by boxes.

Danielle debriefed on the group dynamic

At their shared apartment, Danielle relayed to her boyfriend, Eoin, how her recent reconciliation with Lindsay had gone. “We agreed to take baby steps,” Danielle explained, before adding that Kyle and Amanda, meanwhile, weren’t so friendly. “I was kind of ducking and diving,” she said of the heat she found herself facing from them.

“Amanda is not going to get a ton of apologies from me,” Danielle added of the state of their friendship. “The way she goes about things really grinds on me.” So, what actually happened between the pair?

As it turns out, quite a lot. Beyond their former clashes on Summer House, Danielle revealed that Amanda had been spreading rumors about her relationship with Eoin, specifically, the alleged “overlap” during his divorce. “He is technically still married, but I’m not wrecking any home,” she clarified.

Danielle went on to say that it “sucked” to find out her friend was saying such things behind her back.

As their “trial separation” got underway, Amanda and Kyle went for a dinner date. Over burgers, they discussed how the setup of their separation would work. Despite not wearing her wedding ring – unlike Kyle, who flashed his – Amanda insisted they weren’t single.

“My biggest fear is losing you,” she told him. “That’s scary, and I get frustrated at how badly I want [our marriage] to work.” To that, Kyle asked if she was “in love” with him at that moment. “Yes, that’s why I’m doing this,” Amanda replied.

For his part, Kyle struggled to keep a straight face while telling Amanda that he, too, loved her. “I’m a f*cking catch,” she reminded him. “And I want you to treat me like that.”

“When we spend this time apart, I want to feel like you’re doing everything you can to fight for this relationship and that you don’t want to lose me,” she went on. Well, one Kyle’s loss is another West’s gain, eh?

Andrea entered (and left) the chat

After playing a pretty low-key role in the series thus far, Andrea firmly cemented his place on the show when he went head-to-head against Kenny. It all kicked off over drinks as Kenny filled the group in on his dinner with Whitney. This brought the topic of their “spark” into question once again.

Kenny accused Andrea of “gossiping” and “running his mouth” about his and Whitney’s relationship, as well as “cherry picking certain buzzwords” to pass on. And the buzzword in question? Murky.

In his defense, Andrea kind of agreed with that sentiment, saying that information had been relayed incorrectly as it spread around the group. Like a game of whispers, if you will. Although Andrea then apologized for any miscommunication, he stood his ground on his perspective and, when things continued to get heated between him and Kenny, he dramatically stormed off.

Gavin handed out some hard truths

As Kenny, Whitney, and Gavin caught up after the altercation with Andrea, things between the BFFs got awkward. Gavin, who previously thought Kenny hadn’t mentioned a lack of “spark” with Whitney, found out that he actually did, prompting him to press his friend on those relationship concerns.

“I think what you want from her is more passion,” he said, which was pretty uncomfortable, given that Whitney was sitting, literally, right there with them. “I am the Kenny relationship expert,” Gavin then said in a confessional. “So, in saying that there’s no spark, I know Kenny is feeling insecure about his relationship.”

“It sounds all perfect,” Gavin then said to his friend, with a dramatic use of air quotes. “But perfect is kind of boring.” Clearly offended and, rightfully so, Whitney said that oftentimes, a relationship can seem boring when the person in it is used to toxic patterns.

“I don’t think you know what you’re talking about,” Kenny told Gavin, before adding that his comments were not “constructive.”

“I’m tired of defending this relationship,” he went on. “And you should be the last person I have to explain it to. I’ve been pushed to my edge.” Meanwhile, in a confessional, Kenny suggested that Gavin’s questioning has more to it and hinted that he is actually “jealous.” Ouch!

In The City continues on Tuesdays at 9 PM ET/PT on Bravo. It streams on Peacock the following day.
