At least one person appeared to have been shot and another person suspected of firing a gun was taken into custody near a watch party for the much-anticipated Mexico vs. South Korea game in Koreatown.
The gunfire occurred shortly before 7 p.m. near James M. Wood Boulevard and Normandie Avenue, about a block away from Seoul International Park, where crowds of people had gathered to watch the World Cup match, according to a Times reporter who witnessed the gunfire.

The reporter said he heard three gunshots and saw a man in brown pants firing into the air.
The Los Angeles Police Department did not immediately have details about the shooting.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said it responded to a report of shooting in the 800 block of Irolo Street around 6:44 p.m. At least one person was taken to a local hospital.
Times video taken at the scene shows one man lying on the ground, his leg bleeding and wrapped with a green garment as a tourniquet, while others help him. Nearby, an armed police officer stands guard over another man, also on the ground, wearing brown pants and a black shirt. The man does not appear to be injured.
“Do not reach for anything,” the officer yells at the man.
The officer then asks people standing nearby where the gun is.
“We don’t know,” a woman yells back.
“Where’s the victim?”
“Over there,” several people tell the officer.
The man in brown pants is later seen in handcuffs and being led away while screaming at someone. Paramedics later put the injured man on a gurney and place him in an ambulance.
Meanwhile, police cut off traffic going east on Olympic Boulevard starting at Ardmore Avenue. Several ambulances could be seen going north on the avenue, just a couple of blocks from the Olympic entrance at Seoul International Park.
Some bystanders said they were unaware of the shooting but reported hearing fireworks earlier.
Hordes of soccer fans wearing Mexico and South Korea jerseys were walking down Olympic Boulevard energized but not alarmed in any way.
