According to the official memorial flyer shared on Oliver Tree’s Instagram, the Celebration of Life will feature a separate casket representing each of his iconic personas. The event will also include unreleased video content, tribute videos, and live musical performances. The flyer does not specify which personas will be represented.
Logan Paul, Diplo, Ethan Klein, and Aaron Mercury will speak, joined by other friends and family. They take the stage at the UCSC Quarry Amphitheater at 7:30 p.m. PST. The Oliver Tree memorial event will stream live on his Twitch and YouTube accounts, opening it to fans worldwide. The amphitheater sits on the University of California, Santa Cruz campus, in the city where he grew up.
Oliver Tree’s iconic characters shaped his public life as much as his music did. He performed in a bowl cut and oversized clothing, rode a scooter through his videos, and staged elaborate retirements that blurred the line between the artist and the bit. Giving each persona its own casket extends that logic into the service itself.
Tree released “Ugly Is Beautiful” in 2020 and toured internationally in the years that followed. He played Coachella in April and was on a world tour when he died. Two helicopters collided over Rio de Janeiro on June 14, killing all six people on board. His father, Jesse Nickell, confirmed the death, saying a producer working with him in Brazil delivered the news.
Tree, whose full name was Oliver Tree Nickell, had performed in Buenos Aires 10 days earlier. His team launched Dr. Oliver Tree’s Extremely Epic Art Grant for Baby Geniuses after his death, and the family asks that donations go to the foundation.
