The Fate of ‘Interview With the Vampire’ Officially Confirmed After 3 Seasons

Interview With The Vampire, AMC’s horror show based on the 1976 book by author Anne Rice, has been airing since 2022. Although it’s never been a ratings juggernaut, the show has a passionate fan base and has earned fantastic review scores from critics. For the third season, AMC changed the title of the show to The Vampire Lestat, reflecting the fact that the series was now adapting the second book in Rice’s Vampire Chronicles series. The Vampire Lestat aired its season finale this past Sunday, Jul. 19. Now, we know what comes next.

AMC has officially renewed Interview With The Vampire for Season 4. Or maybe it’s renewed The Vampire Lestat for Season 2. Or maybe it’s something new entirely. Like The Vampire Lestat before it, the show will change titles. When it returns, it will be called Queen of the Damned, after the third book in Rice’s series.

The “Queen of the Damned” is a title given to Akasha (Sheila Atim), the ancient vampire over whom Lestat (Sam Reid) watched for part of Season 3. Previously played by Aaliyah in the 2002 movie Queen of the Damned, Akasha rises from a millennia-long slumber when she hears Lestat’s music, after which she wreaks havoc on the world. AMC dropped a short teaser where Akasha gives us a preview of her plan:

“I say this to you now: do not let them shape you into the size of your cage,” Akasha says. “Women: get up, out of the ditches where they have thrown you and come with me now to where the men are gathered. And do what you have long longed to do: kill them all.”

The show’s renewal was announced at San Diego Comic-Con, where Sheila Atim appeared alongside cast members Jacob Anderson, Assad Zaman, and Eric Bogosian, as well as producers Mark Johnson and Hannah Moscovitch.

“In The Vampire Lestat, Mark, Rolin, Hannah and this extraordinary cast delivered an unforgettable season filled with propulsive storytelling that captivated the passionate and engaged fans of this franchise,” AMC executive Dan McDermott said in a statement, according to Variety. “We can’t wait to continue the journey with Queen of the Damned, one of the most iconic stories in Anne Rice’s mythology, and watch our established and beloved characters confront Akasha with their world, and ours, very much hanging in the balance.”

AMC did not reveal a release window for Queen of the Damned. Thus far, new seasons of Interview With The Vampire have come out every other year, so we can probably expect new episodes on AMC and AMC+ in 2028.
