The DCU’s take on many less appreciated comic figures has already been a decidedly exciting affair, ensuring plenty of comic heroes and villains who’ve previously had smaller fanbases get to be enjoyed by a far wider audience.
This has also seen some characters get notable transformations in terms of their overall on-screen depiction, with the likes of the Creature Commandos team being reimagined in exciting ways in order to invigorate their stories in the new cinematic universe. Naturally, this has raised new parallels for the franchise’s renditions of these figures, which has had a range of interesting side effects – such as giving one DC villain some clear parallels to beloved Marvel villain Doctor Doom.
With Doctor Doom’s time in the MCU spotlight coming in just a few months, this is all the more fascinating to note, both because Doom and his DC comrade are set to appear on-screen around the same time, and because it makes the similarities between the two more pressing given their next roles on the near horizon.
Clayface’s Trailer Confirms The DCU Villain’s Parallels To Doctor Doom
Clayface‘s new trailer reveals the most substantive look at the upcoming 2026 movie so far, and the horrors associated with Matt Hagen’s transformation that sees his skin and flesh become a clay-like substance. The new look notably focuses on Hagen dealing with the body horror consequences of this situation, which ends up putting Clayface in oddly similar territory to Victor Von Doom.
Clayface‘s trailer revealing Hagen wears a mask used to keep his face in place and deal with the accident that has changed it forever bears a remarkable parallel to Doom’s own story, with the Marvel villain also having donned his iconic mask after an accident that changed his appearance.
Similarly, this accident is the start of both character’s villain origin stories, which sees them gain immense powers and pit them against rivals, who still more often than not hold some considerable sympathy for their foes – with Mister Fantastic often being characterized as feeling for Doom and regretting his involvement in the accident that harmed him in the universes where this was the case, and with Batman having considerable sympathy for Clayface’s situation, which at one point even led to the character becoming a part of the Batfamily and fighting crime alongside them.
Clayface & Doctor Doom’s Movie Roles Make 2026 A Huge Year For Iconic Comic Villains
Interestingly enough given their parallels, both Clayface and Doctor Doom are set to have major movie roles in 2026. Clayface obviously appears in October 2026’s Clayface, and Doctor Doom will be having his first proper MCU movie role as part of the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, wherein he will be the film’s central villain following his prior appearance in the final moments of The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
While Doomsday is clearly the bigger film event of the two, both movies are major for the superhero genre. Avengers: Doomsday is the first Avengers movie after Avengers: Endgame, of course, so there’s a level of guaranteed interest in it and its story – and in how the film will handle Doctor Doom, given he was previously absent from Marvel’s live-action movie worlds from 2015 to 2025.
Though the DC Universe‘s Clayface is set to be the smaller of the two movies, it’s no less important for the world of superhero cinema, since it’s expanding what audiences have come to understand the genre as being capable of providing, due to it being an R-rated body horror story. Combined, these two films look as though they both promise major things for the superhero movie landscape going forward, and are sure to help pave the roads for their respective franchise as we go on.
