Amazon’s Newest R-Rated Sensation Is Officially One of the Biggest Shows on Streaming

Over two months after it first debuted, Prime Video’s newest and raunchiest R-rated remains one of the biggest shows on streaming. The eight-episode series, which is based on a best-selling novel (which could be categorized under the “smut” genre), has beaten out major contenders like Reacher, The Legend of Vox Machina, and The Boys to hold a strong place on Prime Video’s streaming charts. With a now iconic cast, a great soundtrack, more drama than all the shows on Prime Video combined, and steamy scenes aplenty, Prime Video’s R-rated hit is taking over streaming.

Based on the best-selling novels by Elle Kennedy, Prime Video’s Off-Campus is one of the steamiest and most popular shows on streaming right now. The show debuted on May 13 and has ranked in Prime Video’s top 10 since. Amazon releases a weekly ranking of its most popular original shows. The action comedy, Ride or Die, currently holds the top spot, with Elle in second. But Off-Campus still holds a podium position as the third most popular original show on Prime Video right now.

Off-Campus was adapted for the screen by Louisa Levy. Ella Bright plays Hannah Wells, a music student who pretends to be in a relationship with her university’s star hockey player. But what starts as roleplay quickly becomes real. The series also stars Belmont Cameli as Garrett Graham (said star hockey player), and Mika Abdalla, Stephen Kalyn, Jalen Thomas Brooks, and Antonio Cipriano.

‘Off Campus’ Is a Near-Perfect, Steamy Adaptation

Off Campus isn’t just dominating on streaming; it’s also an acclaimed show in its own right. The show earned a tremendous 91% Rotten Tomatoes rating, with a similarly great 88% audience score. But, as with any book adaptation, there’s one group of fans that matters the most. And it seems as though Prime Video has done right by them.

Off-Campus became a BookTok sensation before the show was even announced. So, it’s safe to say the novel has a large and devout following. It’s not a 100% faithful adaptation, with several plot lines and character details being altered to fit TV’s episodic structure. But, many fans agree that Off-Campus manages to improve on the book’s weaker elements, especially its male characters.

‘Off-Campus’ Hasn’t Broken Up Just Yet

It should come as no surprise that Prime Video has renewed Off-Campus for a second season. Not only will the Briar University hockey team return for a second season, but they’ll be back sooner rather than later. Season 2 of Off-Campus has already begun shooting. Season 2 will have a new rival in the form of Prime Video’s next BookTok adaptation. Hockey plus sex is a formula that worked well for Off-Campus, so Prime Video is trying it again with its newly announced Icebreaker adaptation.
