Kevin McCarthy Recalls Nancy Pelosi Allegedly ‘Yelling’ at Republicans

Kevin McCarthy is revisiting his rocky relationship with Nancy Pelosi years after both served as House Speaker. During a recent television interview, the former Republican leader claimed Pelosi regularly lashed out at Republicans behind closed doors.

His comments revived one of Washington’s longest-running political rivalries. They also added another chapter to the pair’s history of public clashes.

McCarthy offered his perspective on Pelosi’s time as speaker

According to Mediaite, McCarthy made the remarks while discussing political polarization during an appearance on Jesse Watters Primetime on Fox News. Reflecting on leadership meetings, he claimed Pelosi viewed Republicans as unwelcome participants.

“It’s true of how they would treat us. Nancy Pelosi really felt this about us. Like, we shouldn’t be in the room; she would yell at me sometimes,” McCarthy said.

He also claimed Democrats installed magnetometers to keep Republicans from entering certain areas and argued that bipartisan cooperation became nearly impossible. “And then, they would put magnetometers to try to deny us from entering, and you couldn’t co-author with us,” he continued.

McCarthy described the atmosphere as deeply divisive. “It was so outrageous that you couldn’t respect the other one,” he said. “We should be able to disagree with somebody without being disrespectful.”

His latest criticism came during a discussion about a Fox News graphic comparing how conservatives and liberals perceive one another. “It is so true, and this is where they get the Trump syndrome,” McCarthy said before expanding on his argument.

“If you noticed in that, the Republicans respect the other side. They just thought you were children. We had hope that they would grow up one day. But they treated us and thought of us as monsters and murderers. How would you ever look to that person to be better?” he added.

McCarthy’s account arrived years after several highly publicized exchanges with Pelosi.

In 2021, Pelosi called McCarthy “such a moron” after he criticized the Capitol physician’s indoor mask guidance. Her office later clarified that she considered his comments about the mandate “moronic.”

Pelosi also brushed off claims that she influenced McCarthy’s historic removal as House Speaker in 2023. “I’m so powerful,” she joked afterward before adding, “Just learn how to count, and then you’ll have the votes to do it.”
