Game Of Thrones Meets Final Fantasy In One Of 2026’s Biggest RPGs

The RPG genre is overloaded these days, it can be useful to have a few reference points so you know more of what to expect going into the experience. That’s why so many new releases get compared to stalwarts that the audience know well, be it the undisputed king in The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, or in more recent times, Game of Thrones.

It’s the latter that brings us here today, and with no official games tied to the franchise coming down the pipeline, you might be looking elsewhere for similar kicks. Happily, over on the, there’s an upcoming release that could tick all the right boxes, if you’re willing to ignore the obvious stylistic differences.

Game Of Thrones + Final Fantasy = This Game

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is the latest release in the legendary RPG series, and with the caveat of the fact that it hasn’t released yet, it does look like one of the cooler arrivals in the series to date. The tactical role-playing game is being published by Nintendo and developed by Intelligent Systems.

In sharing a little about what fans can expect, the developer confirmed the following details about the game:

“Fight for victory and make your wish in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave on Nintendo Switch 2. The Dagdan Empire has prospered under the rule of gods for 1,500 years. The capital, Dagsion, plays host to the Heroic Games – the winner of which is granted one wish. Powerful fighters from across the land have gathered to participate.

The story of Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave revolves around four heroes:

  • Cai, a young boy determined to win the games to save his imprisoned father.
  • Dietrich, a swordsman ever on the hunt for a stronger foe.
  • Theodora, a queen seeking to fulfil a long-held dream of her homeland.
  • Leda, a musician with her sights set on revenge.

“Guide whichever character you choose to victory in the Heroic Games, as they weave their own unique tale. Between matches, you can strengthen your forces in different ways. Hone your techniques at the training grounds, recruit new allies or travel beyond Dagsion’s walls to gain experience in battles or dungeons.”

The Medieval fantasy style is undoubtedly a lot more heightened than you’ll find in many of the more grounded projects we know and love, but there are plenty of recognizable elements. From the members of royal families, to great warriors, bards and revenge stories, there should be a little something there for everyone.

As one of the most established RPG franchises in history, there’s a ton of existing lore to jump into. Fortune’s Weave is set to serve as the 18th main entry in the stories series, and it looks like it has plenty of potential to continue that sterling legacy.
