Prime Video’s New 8-Part Mystery Series Is the Perfect One-Night Binge

What would you say if someone told you that you own an island? That’s the question at the heart of a new Amazon Prime Video series that’s premiering tomorrow. Most people would likely reply, “What do you mean?” Of course, we would all likely be curious and would have practical questions concerning its size and location. In this case, the peaceful island has a gorgeous lake and an intriguing vibe that makes you think it’s hiding at least one puzzle that you have to figure out. It also just seems like a nice place for a vacation.

Between the upcoming Season 4 of Reacher, the spin-off Neagley (which premieres in September), and recent hits like Off Campus, there are more than a few exciting Prime Video shows to watch this year. Sterling Point is the latest release that I’m eager to watch, and thankfully, it comes out soon.

‘Sterling Point’ Is Your Next One-Night Binge-Watch On Amazon Prime Video

Sterling Point tells the story of Annie Jacobson (Ella Rubin), a teenager who learns that she and her twin brother Connor (Keen Ruffalo) own an island in Canada that belonged to her grandfather. It’s a classic summer tale: she arrives at a new place, meets new people, and is both nervous and excited. Then she wonders if there is more to her family background than she thought, especially when she meets a girl and realizes she has a sister named Ramona (Amélie Hoeferle). In one scene, she tells her twin brother on the phone, “I’m freaking out. There’s a girl here who looks just like mom. She says that it’s her grandfather’s cottage, too, who apparently owned the entire island.”

That’s the kind of story that needs to be binge-watched. If I had to wait for a new episode to be released every week so I could learn more about Annie’s family, that would be a tough test of my sometimes impatient personality. So, we can be grateful that Sterling Point‘s eight episodes will premiere on Prime Video on Aug. 5, 2026. The series also stars Jay Duplass as Annie’s dad, and cast members also include Missi Pyle and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (in a role very different from his villain Negan in The Walking Dead franchise).

At the time of this writing, it’s unclear whether Sterling Point will be a hit and be renewed for a second season. Given its premise, it could either be a great miniseries or continue, as future seasons could find Annie returning to this island every summer as she gets older. It definitely seems just as bingeworthy as several other Prime shows. Annie enjoys spending time on this island because her late mom did, and much of the story focuses on how she explores that unique and emotional connection. It’s one thing to have the chance to find out what your mother was like when she was your age, and it’s another to realize that you’re spending time in the same place that was so meaningful to them.

The series looks as good as Prime Video’s Every Year After, the recent series based on the Carley Fortune novel Every Summer After, and it’s another Canadian-set series. While Every Year After‘s main location is Barry’s Bay, Sterling Point is set on Lake Muskoka. After watching the trailer, I feel more relaxed, like I’m reading by a body of water while waiting for a shocking clue about my family to be shared. (Wait, that doesn’t sound that relaxing…)

Sterling Point was created by Megan Park, who wrote and directed the 2021 drama The Fallout starring Jenna Ortega and the 2024 comedy My Old Ass. The former is about a teenager coping with a harrowing school shooting, and the latter is a light-hearted yet deep story about a young adult who meets a version of herself when she’s 39. Both are some of the most compelling recent films I’ve seen. I appreciated how they explore mental health and the beauty and struggle of figuring out how to become a better person and maintain your sense of self. I’m interested to see how Park’s new series will examine the same themes, and I’m also curious about what mystery Annie will uncover.
