It is hard to believe that The Legend of Zelda is nearly 40 years old, with the legendary title set to celebrate such a momentous milestone next year. Naturally, Nintendo will do so in style, much like it has with Pokémon’s 30th, and even has an entire movie scheduled to release as part of said celebrations. However, beyond that movie, there is little known about what Nintendo has planned, especially as Ocarina of Time’s long-awaited remake will launch in 2026, likely mere months before the true celebrations begin.
Well, fortunately, we’ve been given a potential glimpse into The Legend of Zelda’s uncertain future, as a brand-new leak of a 40th anniversary release has surfaced online. As seems fairly customary now, Nintendo has been beaten to the punch (so long as the leak turns out to be true), and fans have gotten a look at a new Zelda project long before the studio had a chance to announce it. For those who want to keep the mystery a surprise, it’s probably worth staying away from the internet for a while. For everyone else, this will be pretty exciting.
Taking one glance at Pokémon’s impressively stacked 30th anniversary celebrations should give The Legend of Zelda fans a good enough idea on how Nintendo plans to celebrate its 40th birthday. Pokémon fans were treated to brand-new game announcements, an impressive suite of genuinely unique merchandise, updates to existing games, collaborations with a vast array of companies and artists, and so much more. It has been a phenomenal year for the franchise, one fueled by Nintendo’s passion for it, and it appears that the studio has no plans of resting on its laurels when it comes to Zelda.
A recent leak has begun circulating online featuring photographs of brand-new The Legend of Zelda Nintendo Switch 2 accessories, presumably planned for the 40th anniversary celebrations. The photographs in question, which can be viewed via X, only feature the boxes of said accessories, one of which is for a unique dock and another for a controller. Of course, these shouldn’t be taken as fact until Nintendo officially unveils them, but the photographs look fairly legitimate, and there’s little reason to believe they’re fake.
The Pro Controller design features one black handle and a green one, with the face of the controller sporting an assortment of golden triangles surrounding the Hylian Crest in the center. The dock isn’t too dissimilar, with the facade of the accessory featuring a black base with the same array of golden triangles largely covering it and surrounding the Triforce. The boxes for both accessories also have an official 40th anniversary emblem on them, to signify they’re intended for the event.
It isn’t particularly surprising to see the Nintendo Switch 2 get official Zelda 40th anniversary accessories, but it is good to finally get a look at what fans can expect from the celebrations beyond the upcoming The Legend of Zelda movie. While, once again, it is worth taking these leaks with a grain of salt, it wouldn’t be particularly surprising if Nintendo announced these during a dedicated Ocarina of Time direct or future Nintendo showcase alongside other The Legend of Zelda reveals.
