10/10 Action Thriller Hailed “Best of the Year” Finally Gets New Release

Looking back on the history of action cinema, it’s hard to argue against the ’80s being the heyday of the genre. Of course, prior to this, martial-arts films impressed audiences, but thanks to actors like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, and Jean-Claude Van Damme, both the movies and the stars themselves felt larger than life. Whether it was The Raid or John Wick, fight choreography felt entirely rejuvenated in this timeframe, with those aforementioned titles arguably setting the standard all subsequent movies need to live up to.

This year delivered what feels like the next step in the action movie genre’s evolution, which comes courtesy of The Furious. With more than 150 critics calculated on Rotten Tomatoes, The Furious maintains an impressive 98% positive reviews. To keep the excitement going, today marks an all-new release for the movie, as it hits 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray from Lionsgate Limited.

Like many of the best action movies, what really makes The Furious so impressive is how it brings together seemingly humble individuals, only for the movie to serve as a showcase for their impressive hand-to-hand combat techniques. This story kicks off when a handyman (Xie Miao) discovers that his daughter has been kidnapped, igniting his investigation into the kidnappers. His path collides with a reporter (Joe Taslim), whose wife also disappeared. The pair team up to take down anyone in their way, by any means necessary.

Still, this collector’s edition Blu-ray comes with insight you can’t find on streaming platforms, making this release a must-have for physical media collectors.
