The dream team is back together on Apple TV’s Ted Lasso. Warning: Spoilers for Ted Lasso Season 4, Episode 2 ahead!
At the end of Ted Lasso‘s second episode back, viewers are treated to the reunion we’ve all been waiting for: Coach Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) and Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) back on the same team together. Coach Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) releases Beard, who had continued to work alongside him with the men’s team, telling him to go back to Lasso. We then see Beard burst into Ted’s office, where Alice Chilton (Tanya Reynolds) has just agreed to stay on as assistant coach to Richmond’s new women’s team, and the result is nothing short of joyous for the two American buds. But what will the dynamic look like on and off the field between Alice, Ted, and Beard?
“I can only say, really, that they find their groove pretty quickly,” Hunt, also a co-creator, told TV Insider ahead of the series return.

“They’re not quite adjoining perfectly, like Russian nesting dolls. They do have some stuff to figure out about each other,” he continued. “But, from a producer standpoint, as we’ve been in post, and [seeing] some of the three-coach scenes in their office, it’s been a real kick to watch those scenes. It’s like, ‘Oh, man, these three are fun together.’ And it felt that way on the day, but it also feels that way watching it, at least to me. And that was gratifying. I think people will dig the three of them together.”
While Beard’s work life just got better, we’re still worried about his home life. Emotionally, something is up with him, and it’s alluded that drama went down between Beard and his unpredictable wife Jane Payne (Phoebe Walsh) in the three-year time period since we last saw these characters. Also, Jane was visibly pregnant during their Stonehenge wedding ceremony in Season 3’s finale. “I mean, if we hinted something, it’d be real mean of us not to follow through on that,” Hunt said mysteriously when asked about the situation.
Well, we’d never call the show writers mean! So, we’ll be watching for some closure on that particular storyline in the weeks to come. Until then, we’ll see you on the pitch.
