Travelling to Europe can be nice for a weekend city break. There’s so many places in France to visit – from this quiet town dubbed the country’s most “beautiful escape” to the wine capital Bordeaux.
Often people travel to the capital Paris or even Nice for a coastal holiday and often overlook one gorgeous place in France. Now one content creator revealed why this place is so underrated and perfect for a trip.
Reanna, who often shares hidden gems on her TikTok page where she boasts 21,600 followers, asked: “Why is no one talking about this European city? Welcome to… Lyon.”
In her caption, she revealed why Lyon “officially” won her over. She added: “I spent 4 days here and honestly, I couldn’t get enough of how picturesque it is.
“From the colourful streets and hidden passageways to incredible views, there’s so much to explore.”
She then listed all the things she loved about Lyon – from being the third-largest city in France to Lyon considered as the country’s culinary capital.
Reanna continued: “The Old Town is UNESCO-listed and full of beautiful Renaissance architecture. It’s also considered the birthplace of cinema, thanks to the Lumiére brothers.”
Things to do in Lyon:
Lyon has plenty on offer – from walking through secret covered traboules (covered pedestrian shortcut) to visiting the hilltop Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière.
Starting with a spot of sightseeing, you could walk the cobbled stone streets in one of Europe’s largest Renaissance old towns. You could also find hidden shortcut hallways through buildings and corridors.
Don’t forget to ride the funicular up for great city views. As for food, there’s so much on offer. You can try local meat dishes and pink praline tarts at traditional restaurants.
If you visit Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse, there you can browse indoor food stalls packed with local cheese, wine, and meats.
As for parks and museums, at the Parc de la Tête d’Or you can find a large lake, botanical gardens and free zoo area.
Many tourists also like to check out the Musée des Confluences, a modern museum at the meeting point of the two rivers.
