Taylor Swift Fan Theories Explode After Empire State Building Turns Green

Taylor Swift fans are convinced the Empire State Building may be dropping a hint. The landmark’s supposedly green glow quickly caught the fandom’s attention and sent theories spreading across social media. Many fans associated the color with Swift’s debut era, prompting speculation about “Taylor Swift (Taylor’s Version).” The theory comes at an interesting time, too, with the 2006 album approaching its 20th anniversary. But before Swifties get too excited, there are several reasons to question whether the display was actually a clue.

Taylor Swift fans get excited after Empire State Building seemingly drops ‘green’ clue

Taylor Swift fans are once again putting their detective skills to work. This time, the focus is on the Empire State Building after the iconic New York landmark allegedly appeared in green lights. Its social media account then shared a photo of the building glowing green and added a playful caption: “WhaTS happening?”

The capitalized “TS” immediately caught fans’ attention. So did the color. Green has long been associated with Swift’s self-titled debut album, making some fans wonder if the post could be hinting at “Taylor Swift (Taylor’s Version).”

The timing has only made the theory more interesting. Swift’s debut album will mark its 20th anniversary on October 24. She has also previously confirmed that she had already re-recorded the album before buying back the masters to her first six records. At the time, the “Love Story” singer said the re-recording could still “re-emerge when the time is right.”

Naturally, fans are now wondering if that time could be approaching. “I believe that’s the 20th Anniversary of the debut album, Taylor Swift,” one fan wrote. Another was already thinking about potential vault tracks, commenting, “I’m ready for I’d Lie (Taylor’s Version).”

Not everyone was ready to believe the theory, though. “siiighh this is cool and all, but i’ve fallen for these posts enough and you guys never know anything,” one fan cautioned. Another appeared overwhelmed by the possibilities, asking, “Is it Debut? Is it Reputation? Is it TS13? I am going crazy.”

There is good reason to remain cautious. The Empire State Building has a history of playing into Swift-related online chatter. Its social media team frequently references fan theories and pop culture moments. It has also previously partnered with Swift for a music-to-light show tied to the release of “1989” in 2014.

The building’s recent green display therefore does not necessarily mean it has inside information about an upcoming announcement. In fact, the account’s playful approach to Swift’s fandom makes a clever social media tease another possibility.
