In recent months, Ridley Scott’s upcoming feature film adaptation of Treasure Island has become a major topic of conversation. The planned big-budget film version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s seminal 1883 novel will star Hugh Jackman as Long John Silver. Yet before Treasure Island hits the big screen, a television adaptation will debut on Amazon’s MGM+, and it will arrive sooner than expected.
MGM+ released the first poster for the upcoming Treasure Island series on X. The poster, which features a treasure chest and clouds shaped like a skull, representing the novel’s iconic Skeleton Island, confirms the six-part series will debut on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2026. The X post reads “A legend that refuses to stay buried. A race that could cost everything.” See the poster below:
Back in March 2026, MGM+ boss Michael Wright said regarding Treasure Island: “This thrilling new adaptation of Stevenson’s classic adventure Treasure Island is a perfect expression of the MGM+ brand. It is classic Hollywood storytelling crafted for a contemporary audience, brought to life with an extraordinary ensemble cast.” Treasure Island is a co-production between MGM+ and Paramount+, with the latter streamer having the distribution rights in the UK and Ireland.
In this upcoming adaptation, David Oyelowo (Selma) will step into the role of Long John Silver. Tom Sweet (Great Expectations) will play Jim Hawkins, the story’s central character. Hayley Atwell (Avengers: Doomsday) will play Bess Hawkins, Jim’s mother. Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire) plays Aaron Graham, while Tomer Capone (The Boys) has been cast as Billy Bones. Robert Murphy created the series, with Jeremy Lovering, Paul Walker, and William McGregor serving as series directors.
October is set to be a busy month for television. The week prior to Treasure Island will see the debut of Carrie, an adaptation of the popular Stephen King book, on October 7. The following day, Eternally Yours, a vampire sitcom from the creators of Ghosts, premieres on CBS. On October 14, three days after Treasure Island debuts, VisionQuest will premiere on Disney+, followed by the Friday the 13th prequel Crystal Lake on October 15. That also doesn’t account for series like Lanterns, which will air its season finale on October 4. While Treasure Island might seem like the underdog given its airing on MGM+, the streamer previously found great success with Robin Hood, another classic-literature adaptation on MGM+. The same could be true for Treasure Island.
