Ella Langley Turns Doja Cat’s ‘What Is That?’ Diss Into a Cheeky Clapback

Ella Langley appeared to have plenty of fun with Doja Cat’s recent apparent unfamiliarity with her. The singer responded with a playful Instagram caption after Doja said she had no idea who Langley was.

The exchange quickly gained attention online, especially as Langley continued riding a massive career high. Her smash Choosin’ Texas had spent 19 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100, setting a record for the longest-running No. 1 by a female country artist.

Doja Cat said she didn’t know Ella Langley during a recent podcast appearance

Langley seemed to answer Doja directly in an Aug. 27 Instagram post featuring photos and videos from The Dandelion Tour. “Ella Langley? What is that?” she captioned the post.

The cheeky wording echoed Doja’s earlier comments on the Sundae Conversation podcast. When asked whether she liked Langley, Doja responded, “I don’t know what that is.” Doja then appeared to sound out Langley’s name. After the hosts praised the country singer, Doja simply replied, “OK.”

The comment split fans. Some appreciated Doja’s blunt honesty, while others questioned whether she genuinely didn’t know Langley. Doja later clarified her position during an Aug. 25 Instagram livestream. She insisted her comments targeted country music rather than Langley personally.

“I really don’t just give a f–k about country music and I don’t understand what’s so hard to believe about that,” Doja said. “I never cared. I like that one Keith Urban song from 2004.” She called Langley a “fine” lady but admitted country music did not appeal to her. “I don’t care for that type of s–t at all,” Doja added. “It doesn’t inspire me, it doesn’t make me feel good.”

Still, Doja actually listened to “Choosin’ Texas” during the livestream. Her verdict was hardly glowing, but she offered Langley some credit. “This is not my vibe, but she has a very pretty voice,” Doja said as per E! News. She also called the song “very earwormy” and acknowledged its catchy melody.

Fans quickly connected Langley’s caption to the drama. “Messy with that caption ? it’s what I’m here for,” one person commented. Others defended Doja, noting her own massive streaming numbers and Grammy success. Langley, meanwhile, had the charts on her side. Sometimes the cheekiest response is simply letting the numbers talk.
