Travellers were left horrified, branding one of the most beautiful places on earth as ‘hell’ thanks to the fact that they could barely get off their ferry when they arrived at Balos Beach in Crete, Greece.

Described as having “hypnotising turquoise waters and a panoramic landscape,” the beach has been hyped up and photographed so many times on social media that people fear this is the reason holidaymakers can barely get on the island anymore.

Tourists could be seen all over the shoreline, but as they stood and waited to get onto the island properly, even more tourists arrived by boat, causing pandemonium.

Local media have reported that the authorities are now working to control how many people can visit the island at once in order to preserve the environment and ensure that it’s safe for everyone when they do visit.

It’s been suggested that a maximum of 1,200 people should be allowed on the island at any one time, according to The Daily Mail.

On X, someone showed the horrendous footage, writing: “Balos Beach, Greece, a queue of tourists waiting to board the return boat, while other boats keep arriving loaded with new visitors”.

Another person said that they’d been in May, and it was a “different universe,” because it was tranquil.

However, of course, many people are forced to take their holidays strictly during the summer months; if they have children in school, they will be punished for taking them out during term time.

“This is the harm that influencers do,” one man claimed, as this beach has been described as a seriously Instagrammable spot in Greece, which has led to the rise in popularity.

Others referred to it as “horrifying,” with some fuming that they should make it more expensive to visit.

While some said it didn’t look “very relaxing,” some suggested that it was no worse than “attending a concert,” saying that sometimes you’ve got to queue up for what you’re doing.

It’s not the only place that has caused controversy in Greece this summer, as one woman shared that she had to queue for two hours to get the perfect Instagram shot in Oia, Santorini.

People start queuing as early as 7am so they can get the ideal shot of the blue-domed buildings and beautiful blue waters, but is it really worth it?

Influencer Luiza Parente recently went to Santorini herself and showed off the insane queue to get a photograph.

However, she reckoned it was worth it, as she managed to get the perfect shot – and she even wore blue to mark the occasion.
