Molly Gordon Joins The Bear’s Sophomore Season Cast

Molly Gordon is the latest addition to The Bear‘s season two cast. News broke last week that Bob Odenkirk will also appear in the upcoming season of the popular FX series. Details surrounding Gordon’s character remain unknown, but according to Deadline, she will have an important recurring role. The anticipated second season premieres this June.

The Bear stars Jeremy Allen White as Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, a James Beard Award-winning chef who returns to his native Chicago to take over his family’s sandwich shop following his brother’s suicide. The struggling sandwich shop, named The Original Beef of Chicagoland, is worlds away from the high-end restaurants Carmy is accustomed to. Along with dealing with hardships surrounding the business, he must deal with his ongoing anxiety and grief. The critically acclaimed series also stars Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Abby Elliott, Lionel Boyce and Liza Colón-Zayas. For his portrayal of Carmy, White earned the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy award.

The Bear was created by Christopher Storer. Storer serves as an executive producer alongside Joanna Calo, Hiro Murai, and Nate Matteson of Super Frog and Josh Senior. Tyson Bidner serves as producer. Matty Matheson, who shared news of Gordon’s casting on Instagram, co-produces the series.

Gordon began working as an actress as a child, appearing in I Am Sam and Nora Ephron’s Bewitched. Gordon is best known for her work on films like Booksmart, You People, Life of the Party, Good Boys, and Shiva Baby, and television series Animal Kingdom and Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. She recently co-directed, co-wrote, and starred in the musical comedy Theater Camp. The film’s cast also includes The Bear breakout star Edebiri. The film premiered at Sundance to critical praise and is scheduled to be released in theaters throughout the United States on July 14.

What We Know About The Bear Season Two

FX

The Bear‘s first season concluded with Carmy discovering a significant amount of money stuffed into tomato cans inside the restaurant’s kitchen, leaving audiences wondering why the money was left there and what Carmy would do next. During the 95th Academy Awards, viewers were treated to a short teaser for The Bear‘s upcoming sophomore season. The teaser’s caption reads: “It’s not a reopening, it’s a rebirth,” while the 30-second video shows the staff packing the restaurant’s contents away. The last shot shows a handwritten piece of paper announcing that the restaurant is closed and thanking guests for their patronage.

Season two’s official logline reads:

“A world away from what he’s used to, Carmy must balance the soul-crushing realities of small business ownership, his strong-willed and recalcitrant kitchen staff, and his strained familial relationships, all while grappling with the impact of his brother’s suicide.”

While the first season included eight episodes, the second has been increased to 10, giving audiences more time with Carmy and his team. The entire first season of The Bear is now available for streaming on Hulu.
