Henry Cavill’s New Guy Ritchie Action Thriller Is Officially One of the Biggest Movies on Streaming

After a disastrous box office run, Henry Cavill and Guy Ritchie’s latest action movie is officially a cult classic after landing on streaming. It’s been a tough few years for Cavill and Ritchie on the big screen. After Cavill was booted out of the Superman role (for David Corenswet to take over in James Gunn’s Superman), his movies have somewhat underperformed in theaters. Argylle was a bomb in 2024, as was his second Guy Ritchie partnership, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, the same year. Then there are his other, lesser-known action thrillers, like Night Hunter, which grossed just $1 million in 2018. Earlier this year, Cavill reunited with Guy Ritchie and a few more A-listers for another action caper. After another failed outing at the box office, it is finding redemption by becoming one of the biggest movies on streaming.

Written and directed by Guy Ritchie, 2026’s In the Grey is Cavill’s latest action movie to flop in theaters and become a streaming cult classic. Cavill plays the mononymous Sid, alongside Jake Gyllenhaal as Bronco and Eiza Gonzalez as Rachel (surnames are overrated anyway), who lead a cover team tasked with recovering a stolen billion-dollar fortune. But, as is often the case, the mission doesn’t go according to plan, and the team must desperately fight to survive — not only make it out with the cash, but also with their lives. In the Grey also stars Rosamund Pike, Carlos Bardem, Michael Vu, and Mohammed Al Turki.

‘In the Grey’ Has Now Taken Over Two Streaming Platforms

In the Grey was added to streaming in June, landing on Prime Video. But after becoming one of the biggest movies in the world on that platform a few months ago, it has since expanded its reach to another streamer. In the Grey can also be streamed on Starz in the US. Unsurprisingly, the pairing of Cavill and Ritchie is an enticing one, as In the Grey has found similar success there. It is currently the #1 movie on Starz. In the Grey has pushed Michael down into second, with the $100k action thriller, Hierarchy, in third. In the Grey is also still streaming on Prime Video, where it is the fourth most popular movie worldwide.

If you’ve been following Guy Ritchie’s career over the past few years, then you’ve probably noticed a worrying box office trend. The director held Hollywood in the palm of his hand after Snatch and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. But it seems as though one of the three wishes in his live-action Aladdin movie might have been a curse, as the director hasn’t had a major box office win in years. In the Grey could have been a smash hit. Cavill and Gyllenhaal (especially the latter) are both bankable stars. But the film’s weak script held it back considerably. In the Grey holds a divisive 52% Rotten Tomatoes score. However, audiences were far more impressed, as it holds an 82% user score on RT.
