His name might not be synonymous with big box-office draws, but there’s no doubt that his presence in an adrenaline-fueled thriller will make a big difference. However, this doesn’t mean Statham is invincible. Sometimes, even the most unexpected contenders can be a surprise, and the latest update in the streaming rankings proves just that: a small indie movie is soaring on the charts, and it has passed Statham’s best movie in years.

Low-Budget Action Does Not Mean Bad Action – And ‘Hierarchy’ Is Proof

Statham’s surprising contender is Hierarchy, the 2025 indie action movie directed by Russell K Reed. The film follows two adoptive brothers as they plan a heist with a haul that will set them up for the rest of their lives. The problem is that they have already drawn the attention of the local Russian mafia and authorities, and their odds get worse by the second. Hierarchy is written by and starring Chiderah Uzowulu, who stars alongside Xavier Alvarado, Carol Hickey, Carlos Lerman, Dylan Winters, Jenny Frame, and Neyla Cantu.

Produced for $100,000, Hierarchy had a limited run in theaters before going straight to Starz and then Netflix, where it also enjoyed well-deserved success. Unfortunately, it never caught the attention of critics, so it hasn’t received a critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. Regardless, users on the website left their own reviews, and some called it the “best crime drama in 30 years,” while others praised the performances and direction.

According to the latest update on the streaming charts, Hierarchy has become one of the biggest movies on streaming. The film has returned to the top 10 list of the most-watched movies on Starz in the U.S., where it sits alongside hits like Michael, The Housemaid, and In the Grey. By the time of writing, Hierarchy is currently at No. 3 on the streamer’s charts, effectively passing Statham’s Shelter, which is No. 4 on the list.

Statham’s ‘Shelter’ Is One of His Best Action Films in Recent Years

Hierarchy may be the latest film giving The Stath a taste of his own medicine on the streaming charts, but Statham’s 2026 thriller is still one of the best action movies of the year. Shelter is a modern take on the classic trope introduced by films such as John Wick and Logan, in which a mysterious and highly skilled retired assassin goes on a violent rampage while trying to protect an innocent young person. Add Statham’s signature action style, and you get a nearly perfect shoot-’em-up with the right dose of white-knuckle sequences and drama supported by a good story.

Shelter could have easily gone down the route of a generic action thriller starring Statham (there are plenty of those). Nonetheless, it is quite original in tone, and though it follows the conventions of the genre, featuring an old dude beating bad guys, Shelter feels like a standout. Just as Hierarchy is a great example of low-budget action showing big studios how things can be done without spending too much, Shelter proves that tweaking the standards is worth the risk.
