After begging Nintendo for the last decade, it is hard to believe that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake is just over a month away from launch. With the original title regarded by many to be one of the greatest video games of all time, and many Zelda fans considering it to be the best in the franchise, it is no wonder that this remake, that is set to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2, is highly anticipated, especially as it marks the first remake since 2011’s Ocarina of Time 3D.
Launching on 5 November 2026, we are on the homestretch and, as you can imagine, fans are feeling mixed emotions. Releasing a remake of such a popular game is never an easy task, with developers having to successfully bring the game onto modern platforms whilst still keeping the magic of the original. Some remakes, such as Silent Hill 2 Remake, pull this off, whilst others have left a lot more to the imagination.
With The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake expected to offer ground-up visual designs, 60fps, and quality-of-life improvements such as full camera control and the addition of sprinting, it seems as though Nintendo has ticked all the boxes with what fans have been asking for from a remake. However, over on r/zelda, one user has one major concern.
In the original 1998 title, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time saw Link come face to face with sub-bosses, Dead Hands. The zombie-like monster is an iconic figure from the game, with many considering it one of the most frightening bosses in Zelda history, even comparing it to the likes of a Silent Hill enemy.
As such, over on Reddit, one user is skeptical that the Ocarina of Time Remake will be able to recapture the true dread of Dead Hands, saying, “Dead Hand is either getting cut or drastically redesigned. I just can not see modern family-friendly Nintendo going as dark and creepy as the original OoT, with Dead Hand, and even the ReDeads. I sincerely hope Nintendo doesn’t change a thing about Ocarina of Time though, or that they just add to the game rather than change or remove anything, but we’ve seen recent remakes of classic games change up the story like the recent FF7 remakes. What do y’all think though? Would you want a shot-for-shot remake or to change some mechanics, dungeons, bosses or gameplay for modern audiences?”
With almost 40 comments, it is safe to say that fellow Zelda fans have their own thoughts about the Ocarina of Time Remake, and how it could potentially feature game-altering changes.
“It won’t be cut, but there’s a chance it looks more like the white blob it was in the 3DS version than the bloody corpse it was in the N64 version,” one comment read. “Personally, I hope it is not censored at all.”
Another shared, Anyone who pays attention will know that The Well and Spirit Temple are rather dark. Obviously, I’m not trying to say that it isn’t scary to anyone else, but I think the Dead Hand works well without being over the top. The ReDeads, and specifically the ones under the grave, still cause my heart to skip. And wall hands still give me anxiety. There are ways, as have been pointed out, to tone it down. But the outright removal will throw off the game, I think.”
Until we see more official gameplay from Nintendo, we do not yet know how much the legendary game will have changed with the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, but we can only hope that it still maintains the magic we all first experienced back in 1998.
