With Reacher Season 4 concluding on September 16, 2026, there is plenty of downtime before Season 5 returns. In the meantime, Prime Video has several worthy action shows and crime thrillers to keep subscribers busy, including The Terminal List, Fallout, Hanna, The Boys, Cross, and more. But when it comes to a crime show that arguably trumps Reacher‘s addictive thrills, Prime Video’s defining series, with over twice as many episodes, is still hard to beat.
Running for seven seasons and 68 episodes between 2014 and 2021, Bosch adapts several books in Michael Connelly’s bestselling crime novel series. The title character may not pound enemies into submission like Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson). But Titus Welliver’s nuanced performance as the morally complicated LAPD detective Harry Bosch results in an even more compelling experience. With both series spawning spin-offs, Bosch almost feels like a blueprint for Reacher‘s success.
Titus Welliver Shines as the Law-Bending LAPD Detective Harry Bosch
In a role tailored to his gruff charm, Titus Welliver gives one of his best performances as Harry Bosch in the seven-season Prime Video original series. Each season of Bosch adapts at least one of Michael Connelly’s books and focuses on Harry’s unique investigative style. Like Jack Reacher, Bosch uses his military background to help solve criminal cases. Although Harry respects and honors policy and the rule of law, he often operates outside legal strictures and finds moral gray areas to justify his work.
While he isn’t the nomadic, one-man punisher Reacher often is during fights, Bosch’s keen detective instincts and out-of-the-box observational skills give him an advantage over the criminals he investigates. Thanks in part to Welliver’s ethically nuanced turn, Bosch appealed to critics and general audiences alike, with the overall series holding a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score and 94% Popcornmeter score as of October 8, 2026. The show also boasts an 8.5 IMDb rating compared to Reacher‘s 8.0.
For anyone drawn to Reacher‘s bingeworthy formula, in which serialized criminal arcs develop over one season, Bosch helped lay the groundwork several years before. With 68 episodes compared to Reacher‘s 32 (and counting), Bosch delivers roughly double the visceral thrills and compelling criminal cases in its seven seasons.
‘Bosch’ & ‘Reacher’ Both Spawn Powerful Female-Led Spin-Offs
On September 16, 2026, Reacher‘s Season 4 finale coincided with the premiere of its Prime Video spin-off series, Neagley. Maria Sten reprises her role as Jack Reacher’s close ally, Frances Neagley, who takes a legal case in Chicago following suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of her childhood friend. On October 1, 2026, Neagley was renewed for Season 2, indicating Amazon’s faith in the show’s longevity.
One of the core storylines in Neagley‘s first chapter is the title character’s childhood trauma that she is forced to grapple with in the wake of her friend’s death. The deep-seated trauma recalls a similar character development in the underrated second Bosch spin-off, Ballard, which premiered on Prime Video in July 2025.
Maggie Q soars as Renee Ballard, one of Bosch’s former colleagues leading a new, underfunded cold-case unit in the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division. Battling her own traumatic past stemming from a workplace tragedy, Ballard is thematically aligned with Neagley as two powerful, female-driven detective spin-offs worthy of the originals.
Never mind Bosch‘s lackluster first spin-off, Bosch: Legacy. Ballard gets back to the winning formula of the original while changing the scenery to sandy West Los Angeles. Ballard was renewed for Season 2 in October 2025, although no release date has been set. Whenever they return, Ballard and Neagley make ideal companions, just like Bosch and Reacher.
